I'm considering a career as a sound engineer. Is there anyone here that works in this field & can tell me the best way to prepare myself educationally & what are the key traits that I should possess that cannot be taught. I am a complete novice.

I presume, you want to record music and such? I fell into the job, like 30 years or so ago. Now it can be hard to get into. I started work in a recording studio. So I would suggest, contacting all tv and radio stations, on how to get into the sound area of recording etc. I would also suggest, you contact ALL advertising agency's in your area and ask them, what is required and what skills you need. I started in a small business, where 30 or so more years later, still hear the commercial that was made all that time ago, still on radio today. It brings back many memories.

You need a keen sense of hearing. Learn how to talk to the musicians you'll be recording. Always keep up w/the latest gear. Its always changing and there is always something new. Get over your ego and everyone elses. Happy hunting....:)
