Why do more people believe in a 'good' gods than in 'bad' gods - I mean, logic tells us that the world and our lives are in a bit of a mess,,,,,

There is a bad "god" and his name is Satan 2 Cor 4:4 . I think most would believe in a good God because of things we observe that wouldn't make sense if there were only a bad God, such as love and justice.
