  • We look after an autistic boy once a month and he really gets on my nerves! I know he doesn't understand certain things about reality and his world is a lot different to mine but I don't really know how to act around him. He uses alot of our broadband on the computer by watching video's of goats on farms or people burping, farting and swearing and I get really frustrated when I need to go on a week later for a homework assignment and all the internet space has been used up. He gets bored really quickly and jumps from activity to activity and can be really demanding.
  • Your honesty is good.It can be challenging and rewarding to help people with disabilities.I can understand your frustration at the internet space being used. It's OK to take a breather, leave the room sometimes.Did you decide to look after this boy? I suggest maybe you have a look on the internet or get a book out about autism if you would like.Could you speak to your parents about how you feel?
  • Comfort will come naturally or it won't come at all. It's not something you can "learn" through study. Personally, I feel the same way about young children. Not that I feel stupid, but that I don't understand them and thus don't know how to relate to them.
  • If you feel that strongly about it, endeavor to find a way to work with people with disabilities. You'll be surprised to discover many of them are a**holes just like the rest of us. Nothing special. That awkward feeling will go away.
  • Do you realize they are very smart and can sense more than you will ever know , learning patience and being thankful it isn't you would help you understand what they might be going through - Maybe learning from them , instead of running from them will make you a better person down the road of life
