Are the incredibly numerous spelling errors displayed on this site indicative of a downfall of education or are people just less vigilant in editting when they are essentially anonymous?

Well if they are like me they have banana fingers when hitting the keys on the keyboard and probably don't edit. Well what do you know I got through that without one mistake ;)

Most of mine is bad typing the rest is bad spelling; that has been a down fall of mine all my life!!!!!!!!!!

People's grammar isn't too crash hot these days, either ;) Btw, it's "editing", not "editting".

my biggest problem is that while i type really fast, i dont touch type, this results in many errors!! i double checked this one though!!

I think that a lot of people simply don't care..don't take the time to look up a correct spelling..

What is "editting"? Do you mean "editing"? I think people are less careful in an informal environment. At least, that's what I prefer to think. Can you answer your own question to give me insight? What was the cause of your spelling error?

Spelling is unimportant as long as you get your point accross.

For some people, only one spelling error or typo in a question could be considered very annoying [editting]. Some other questions don't have spelling errors, they are just not written in Standard English. And for the rest, it could be seen as a downfall of education, as far as writing is concerned, or as the result of much more people having access to the possibility of expressing themselves through the internet. Don't forget also those people who don't use English as a native language.
