I ignore it, roll over and go back to sleep. If it persists I'll be a little bit more afraid each time it reoccurs, but i'll get up and stand on the landing listening closely - my ears are really good and I'm sure I'd figure out what the noise was. Once sussed I would either go down and sort it out, or if it was a person I didn't recognise, I'd call the police - I'd leave it a bit first though in case it was just dad sleepwalking around and eating whatever he can get his mitts on! ... Either way, I wouldn't be frozen with fear, just nervous x

I feel pretty safe with this fella around so I'll just listen a little longer then see what he reckons about it. If there's any investigating to be done - he's gonna do it on behalf of "his" family. Have found that most people are not inclined to argue with him so i have no real "stranger danger" concerns. Edit to remove pictures.

I would lay there frozen in fear but if its the middle of the night I would probably already be awake so if it was a scary monster I would just hit them over the head with a frying pan and continue on answerbag.

I would lie there frozen with fear. I would eventually nudge my boyfriend and make him go and investigate while I hide under the duvet. Duvets are a magical thing, although mine is made from cotton, feathers and down - it can protect me from everything!!!

I'd listen to hear further. If it was disturbing enough I might wake my husband up. If not, I'd go back to sleep. We live in the woods with a lot of 'nature' surrounding us. There are always things that go bump in the night.
-
I am very brave I shout out "I will send my wife to investigate!" That usually sends any intruder packing!
-
Well considering my hubby works constant nights, im the one who has to investigate, but usually (with having two toddlers) its one of them up for the loo or a drink... so far. I dont really get time to stop and think it might be an intruder, i just get up and go!
-
I'll just get up and look. If you're gonna get it, it's about too late by then to worry about it!
-
I check it out right away and take my 2 dogs with me (mum is alsatian, daugher is alsatian x rottweiler) so I really have no worries.
-
I live in a house full of guys. If I investigated every time I heard a strange noise, I'd never get any sleep.
-
I'm not out of the house yet and my room is on the opposite side of the house from my parents' and pretty far away from my brothers, and none of my pets sleep near me. I totally lie there frozen with fear...although there usually isn't anything to worry about. I have a sick little kid mind that thinks every raindrop is an ax murderer knocking on my window.
-
I will either get up.....or open the door and send the dogs out
-
The dog, then my husband, then I get up to see what's going on.
-
I grab my flashlight, my handgun and my cell phone and go check it out!
-
I get up...grab my Glock 9mm...then I go investigate. I live in Florida, so we can legally shoot intruders for almost any reason, no questions asked.
-
This happened to me not long ago, I crept downstairs with baseball bat ready, followed by my petrified daughter who wouldnt stay in the bedroom whilst I looked, and she was followed closely by our petrified, shaking nervous wreck of a guard dog! It turned out to be nothing!

i investigate out of curiosity even though i'm terrified..
