I think if they believe that you're responsible enough to sign a contract which makes you go to other country, and start killing people, and risk getting killed yourself, then I believe that you're responsible enough to have a drink as well, and if you're under 18, think you're responsible enough to go rent some porn as well...

Yes! And seriously, why is 21 the 'golden' age anyway? If your not adult enough to drink a beer until that point, lets train you on how to use automatic weapons, kill people, and send you into hostile teritory and see how you do in the meantime. Hmmmm, that doesn't sound right, now, does it? Let them drink! It's not like they haven't earned it!

Absolutely; your getting a raw deal.

Yes, but there is something that most people do not know. The drinking age does NOT apply overseas. Many of my shipmates that I drank with on deployment were in the 18-20 age group. In addition, troops and sailors in San Diego USED TO BE allowed to drink beer in the clubs on base so as to avoid them going to Tijuana and getting mugged/beaten/killed. As soon as they withdrew that, the number of "violent incidents" involving military personnel in TJ skyrocketed literally overnight. Thank you, Uncle Sam....

When I first entered the Marines, the ages was changing from state to state. Some were 18, some 19 and others 21. Regardless all clubs on base would allow 18 year olds to buy alcohol. It became a problem in the early 80's after there were several instances of service people getting drunk on base and driving off base where they were not legal to have had the booze. I still believe if a person is old enough to fight and die for their country they should have full rights of every other citizen. This would include the right to purchase and consume alcohol. One last thing, I have never understood the idea that a person is old enough to vote for the leader of the country but not mature enough to handle booze responsibly... just seems odd to me.
