Why do people lie on Myspace and other websites like that? whats the point?

The "interweb" gives people all sorts of anonymity. Some people feel that as long as they are doing things that are unethical in a digital medium that it does not apply in the same way. The way I see it, most people lie or misrepresent themselves in a major way to escape from reality into a new kind of realm where they can be someone they aren't, because they don't like who they are in real life.

Because they can be anything they want online. They can trick people into thinking they're better looking or more popular then they really are. It's annoying.

They become something they would like to be, like all the gltzy glamour girl pics. From what I have seen of friends accounts all the women are Models . I have never seen a guys account so I cannot comment on those. It is a bit like Walter Mitty they become rich and beautiful or handsome and single.

Because of sexual predators. Or because they just don't want to give out too much information. That might lead people to finding out where they are and who they are. There's hundreds of reasons.

They lie, because they are messed up in the head..simple as that...and in all honesty, a good looking guy that is on here trying to find his soul mate. Is a game player..or man whore, If You are looking for a love that will last a life time, this is not the place to do it...I know it, But I still get on here and endure the bs, why?

because lying is easy on the Internet and they get some illicit thrill out of pretending they are actually better than they really are
