Why do people say "drugs and alcohol," is alcohol not a drug?

the government teaches everyone as if dope is as bad as crystal meth. so alcohol being legal and all, people tend to think of it lighter than dope, were statisticaly, there are more deaths, injuries, addicts and rape ratio to the population from alcohol than dope, but the goverment refuses too aknowledge this so the teach as if pot heads were no better than coke addicts

my opinion - if it was alcohol and drugs is would read that alcohol is not a drug - whereas drugs and alcohol implies alcohol is a drug. more and more polydrug use is becoming an issue.

There are many definitions of "drugs". According to some of them, alcohol is a drug. However chemically, alcohol (more specifically, ethanol) is a much simpler chemical than most other recreational or medical drugs.
