Why do people who get tattoos think they are being 'non conformist' when nearly everyone has one?

I have tattoos and i don't think i am being non conformist by having one! i have them because i like them not becasue i feel it would make me feel different, stand out or going against the grain lol!

I am planning on getting two tattoos. However, what I am to get shall have special meaning. One is to be my family Crest on my left shoulderblade. The other is to be the Rromani flag with "Opre Rroma!" under it on my upper arm. I want that one visible so people who see me get the message I am seeking to portray. Assuming, that is, they know what our flag looks like and know what "Opre Rroma!" means. Considering what the Rromani go through as far as prejudice, it is not only saying I am proud to be Rromani but it is a huge middle finger flown in the face of bigots. I do not know what percentage of tattooed people do it to be "non conformist" but I know a good many do. I think that is silly as hell. A few decades back it was non-conformist. That is long past.
