  • I believe that the expression refers to the love of money and not money itself.
  • it's all the damned government's fault..
  • You do have to sustain yourself (and your children) with food, clothing, and shelter. Taxes are covered under, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s." The bigger question is, if money is the route of all sin, why do Christian Churches always ask for it? The disclaimer on my answer is that I am not Christian, do not believe in sin, and don't follow the Christian Bible.
  • Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:10 that "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." The effect that loving money has on the church and Christians alike is the greed and persecution etc that has been evidenced by mankind including the church and Christians. Paul was absolutely right but your question is a misrepresentation of what was said and what is true. Money in and of itself is fine and proper but the adoration (idol worship) of it is the beginning of serious problems.
  • According to the bible, the love of money is the root to all evil. You are confused about this subject. The bible clearly condones working for a living. In fact, it condemns laziness. Here is the context of the bible quote. 1 Timothy 6:6-12 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. As you can see, God does not condemn money or earning money but he does condemn putting the pursuit of money over service and faith. And that's good advice even if you aren't a believer. The pursuit of money over building relationships and service will bring nothing but emptiness and pain. These verses show that laziness is not a Godly quality. God abhors laziness. Proverbs 10:4-4 4 Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. Pr 12:27 - Show Context The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions. Pr 26:15 - Show Context The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. Ec 10:18 - Show Context If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks.
  • God doesn't even exist, show us divine intervention then we shall all believe!! The bible was written as a rulebook to keep mankind on the straight & narrow as everyone looks to a greater force for help & answers. Explain the immaculate conception for instance???? no ivf treatment(artificial insemination) was readily availabe in that day & age, and also if god created the earth, who created god? was he imacculately concieved somehow? i think not! All aspects of religion are fundamentally based.
  • why can i be wrong when the catholic faith believe in the idea that jesus was concieved "immaculately"??? science has taught us many great things, such as, the earth wasn't built in six days(14.3 billion years to be precise) man & beast did not walk the earth simultaneously (carbon dating has proven such feats did not occur) My main point would be that science has more pro's than con's & all religious believers have to back up their side is to quote paragraphs from a rulebook that was intended to overshadow mankind towards righteousnous, and in regards to your previous comment, if "God" blesses the rich why is there so much famine & suffering in the world? they cannot have all possibly "sinned", peasant farmers will often look to prayer & god as a means of help & does he???? no he does not!
  • Its the LOVE of money thats the sin
  • if it's the "love" of money that's the sin i certainly don't know anyone who likes being poor, go ask a hobo for example;)
  • This is without doubt controversial. I own a chain of pizza carry-out restaurants in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Won't mention the name. I have accumulated about $3 million for myself in savings over a period of about 2 years or so from salary. My wife and I have about a 3,000 square foot home on 3 acres with an indoor heated pool...nice home and we live comfortable. Out of my gross amount from the company I contribute about 12% to missions work, plus sponsor other church related events as well as sponsor my brother in law who started his own ministry by giving him about $1,000 per month. This is where the problem lies. I put the Lord FIRST – God is first in my life and I don't lose focus of Him. I not only pray but talk to Him in quiet time. Now – my father in-law, brother in-law and a number of members of my Church have told me that we live in the life of sin because “those who serve themselves live in sin”, is what I am being told. Basically – because I have a company that is growing and live in a nice home I SHOULD give it all up despite that I work 12 hours per day 6 days per week. I've been told to sell off the pizza stores and take all the money and give it to missions to expand God's work. My wife and I prayed about this and we strongly feel this is not what God is asking us to do – but instead we both feel God has spoken to us to do more in the form of missions. So we decided to start an organization that will help expand missions in India and China by “smuggling” bibles into China (we found an organization that can help do this but does cost money). Now – without money we cannot contribute no where near the amount that we are currently contributing, and what we plan to contribute over the next 12 months. HOWEVER – again we are now being told to sell the house, the company and and take all the cash and give it to the Church to expands God's kingdom – being told that $4 or $5 million will do a lot more now than contributing only $600 thousand to a million per year. Now , we don't know what to do.
  • The money itself is not the root of all sins; it is the greed to have more and more by hook and crook; its not only in Bible but in all holy books. The current finiancial crisis is a simple example. RK
