I voted in a presidential election while I was a missionary. I had heard some things about one of the candidates that really scared me. So, I had my parents send me my sample ballot so that I could request an absentee ballot that year so that I could do my part to see that that guy didn't get elected.

That written, I would generally discourage missionaries from voting. As I see it, one of the obligations that goes with the right to vote is that the voter study the issues at hand before voting. That way the voter can make an informed decision when he fills out the ballot.

In order to better focus on serving God, our missionaries isolate themselves from sources of information that don't directly relate to their missions. As such, the are not supposed to be reading news papers and news magazines, watching TV, listening to the radio, or surfing the internet. So, they really don't have anyway to keep up with what is going on outside of their missionary activities. Therefore, they don't really have the ability to make informed decisions about most candidates and ballot initiatives.

With this criteria in mind, perhaps I should not have voted in that election while I was a missionary. The information I had on the one candidate was secondhand information. However, knowing what i know now about the candidates in that election, I still would have voted the same way. I also did not vote on any of the other elections on that ballot.

It depends on the voting laws of the home country of the missionary. Some allow voting by proxy; others do not.

If they are from the US, they sure are. You simply have to request an absentee ballot from your parents or the local US Embassy. I still voted for President and all other elections while I was away. :)

Sure since they can vote online for who's going to make the MLB All-Star game they just need to get to an online computer and they're all set!

In fact they can vote once a day until the All-Star game if they wish to.

    (That was easy!)
