Is it safe to install a second hard drive to my laptop when it still has an OS installed?

Just bought a new laptop, and I want to install the 500gb hard drive from my old one to the new one while keeping all the files. Will the operating system installed on the old hard drive damage my new laptop?

1-12-2017 Nothing in your question has anything to do with anything else in your question. The only question is whether you have a space big enough for a second drive. If the C: drive is big enough, you can use an adapter to copy the files through the USB port. It's pretty simple, but you might want to find a friend who actually knows how to do it.
