I was actually pissed.....for over a hundred years we were taught that there were 9 planets....now there are 8...how the hell???
-
I still consider it a Planet and think that it should be reinstated. It is a stupid thing to suddenly demote a planet. it is similar to the Churches suddenly demoting St. Christopher.

I think it was just nit-picking. The problem with pluto is its tiny size, but what is it now? It is too small to be a planet yet it has 2 moons so it cant be an asteroid, so what is it???

i no aye. its not fair. poor pluto. they named even named it afte micey mouses dog

The January 2007 issue of "Scientific American" has a very good article on this issue (http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&colID=1&articleID=93385350-E7F2-99DF-3FD6272BB4959038). It covers the history of our definition of a planet and explains why it is that Pluto is no longer considered one. The fact of the matter is that since Earth was recognized as a planet, we really haven't had a good definition as to just what makes a planet. Last summer the astronomical community finally got together and gave us a pretty good definition which resulted in Pluto being demoted to the status of dwarf planet. So, knowing what I have known for a long time, I was not really sad to see Pluto demoted. Its status has been quite controversial for a long time. It is nice to finally have that resolved.

me and clyde tombaugh still believe.

i think our government is wasting too much money in NASA if that's all they can come up with

Actually it didn't effect me too much. I always liked Pluto, but whatever it was, it still is. Whatever it isn't, it never was. Whatever it will be, is yet to be. Whatever we think and say is only for the purpose of communication within our species.

What gets me is that now there is an asteroid or two in the belt out by mars that CAN be considered planets. *hides head under pillow* Wake me when it's over!

I almost went through a box of tissues becasue of the sad news. I like the solidness of the number nine. It's better than the great 8, that's the NCAA basketball tournament.
