  • the profit margin for prescribing these drugs is massive, doctors prescribe adderol and concerta and stuff like it's candy because of the money the companies make from it. past that i don't know
  • Because of the pressures put on doctors. Hospital and doctor's offices are facing rising costs. The administration makes the doctors rush through every patient. Newly implemented electronic systems for charts add extra time to every patient. Doctors are forced, in some areas, to average three or more patients an hour in order to make a profit. Two patients an hour is the overhead. There isn't enough time to properly communicate problems. Doctors often cannot get a good idea of what's going on and what a better solution would be. If the woman is asking for a prescription and there's no time to figure out what she really needs and she's grumpy and is already seeing a psychologist and is in pain... whatcha gunna do?
  • It's not just menopause, it's every condition. The medical industry in the United States is worthless- you go to a doctor, and they hand you a stack of prescriptions. The medical industry is under the control of two puppet masters- the Insurance Industry and the Pharmaceutical Industry. For every ailment of any kind the treatment is just another bitter jagged little pill.
  • For the same reason you see so many ads on TV saying "ask your doctor if ____ is right for you" - whether it's sleep aids, cholesterol meds, high blood pressure, depression, whatever. It's because the pharmaceutical companies are greedy, blood-sucking locusts that care more about the almighty dollar than about the health of those they are entrusted with.
  • Women are not the only people being over-medicated. I see it everyday at the nursing home I work in. Some of these people are on 30 or more medications. How ridiculous!!! My husband had a bad reaction a couple of years ago. I had to take a day off from work and go to the doctor's with him. I took with me 34 bottles of medication, that I pulled out of our medicine cabinet. He was on so many he was confused about which ones he should be taking. When we left the doctor's offfice, he was down to 9 prescriptions. They (the doctor's), just keep giving a pill for everything that comes up. Never looking back and seeing what other pills have been prescribed.
  • Menopause , for some have very different reactions , and feelings and there are certain medicines just for menopause -- I do see the point your trying to make , I have sat in a "patient room" waiting to be seen and had to sit there for over a hour , while the Pill salesman , laughed and chatted on and on with the Doctor , and then the Doctor just rushes patients in and out , not paying attention to the patients needs - Slaps a few pills their way and the Doctors ready for the next patient - Money Money is all I can come up with Good Question +5
  • Excellent question, John. It is so much easier to over medicate than do the really hard work necessary to get just the right amount and combination of medication, nutrition, and counseling. There is no doubt that people at various stages of life are suffering and needs some help. i just think that throwing medicine at every single and separate symptom is more of a maintenance approach than one that promotes maximum wellness. I wonder if it is being overwhelmed, being rushed, not having all the information on what the patient has been prescribed by various doctors, or some other factor. I know that the pharmaceutical industry exercises a lot of influence over doctors as brokers of information and donors to medical education. Many practitioners are becoming wiser in this area. Those are the ones that I recomend to my loved ones.
