That god will do little evils that will bring about a greater good because of our nature. God does things in a subtle manner that may appear malicious on the surface but by looking at the big picture He has actually done some good.

When Einstein referred to 'God', he usually meant it as 'the mysterious, unexplained/unexplainable forces of the universe', and NOT in a particularly religious way as people often quote him for... So by that he means the universe may work in ways which are subtle and not necessarily for our gain, but the universe isn't inherently malicious : )

He answered that when told that someone had test results which showed that the theory of relativity were wrong. He meant that God had allowed him to "look under the hood" and that God would not deceive him by showing him a theory that was wrong. The test results were a mistake so God was not malicious. I think that creationalists did well in ponder Einstein's sentence.

I think he was joking, the biblical god is about as malicious as they come.
