After what seems like an eternity, I'm on the verge of becoming a Sage. Should I commit badgicide just before hitting level 50, just for fun?

No. Committing Badgicide is never an answer. I recently committed avataracide and it's a hellish existence, isolated and away from the artwork I used to know and love. My advice is >> keep your points. Don't make trouble for yourself.

It seems to me that everybody, including you, that's committed badgicide in the past is pretty widely known to have done it. That being the case there seems little point. In addition people who enjoy interacting with you would soon recognise you under your new guise so, again, there seems little point. Prior to the introduction of the sliding points scale an advantage of badgicide would have been that you would not be able to award so many points, but this is no longer relevant. On balance I would say NO, but it is, of course, entirely up to you.

No, not at all. Do what I am doing, take the next step. Apply to hire on at the bag as a "bot". It is much more fun. You can ask inane questions on purpose yet still be doing your job. How good can it get?

No, SB, you shouldn't. You already know everyone likes you regardless of your badge. When I first showed up at AB a good while back, it was shortly before you committed the original badgicide, I think. There were people crying about how the high-level badges were a clique and didn't rate anyone but themselves, and cared more about points than about AB and the content. You did an experiment wherein you created a new logon and didn't tell anyone who you were, and tried to see how fast you could gain acceptance into the "clique" or if it even existed. What I concluded from all the discussion was that the cliques were largely percieved by those who cared too much about badges and certainly weren't exclusive. The fact is, even when they didn't know it was you, people were noticing your answers and remarking upon this intelligent new guy... before getting suspicious and figuring it out. Everyone likes you for you, SB, and a little 50 badge ain't gonna change that.

it is up to you. I wouldn't ,you are the person that keeps me going to reach level 50 which will probably been in a few months.I get so discoraged but i am hanging in there,don't do it please.
