I think 25K is absurd. Child support is supposed to be just that, support; food, clothing, shelter, college funds. The mother is truly greedy.

Good Grief. That is ridiculous, My dad only had to pay $250 a month, for 2 kids, and still never payed. I'd hate to be you if you ever got behind. What is the custody arrangement? If you spend a lot of time with the child, I'd talk to the judge about lowering the payments. Heck, even if I didn't spend much time with the child I'd talk to the judge.

There should be some sort of regulation for child support, so that only the child gets the money. Since the father in this story is 50 cent, who's worth a heck of a lot, it's not a bad thing that the kid can get money from his dad. The problem is I doubt the kid even see's much of that, other than what his mother may spend it on.

Child support is usually based on your income or wealth. If you're paying $25k/mo, you must make or have a crap load of money.

uh, yeah, if your paying that much a month, you really shouldnt even complain, whats a few more thousand? of course your probably talking about a celebrity.

My opinion is that I wish you were MY ex.

The amount of child support has a cap in most states of 15 percent of your income. (This may be 15 percent per child, but I don't believe so). You need to speak to your attorney to find out the laws in your state. If you are mostly concerned about where the money will be spent, you can request that a certain amount be paid into a trust account for the child instead of being paid directly to your ex. Whether or not that can be done depends on the state and the judge.

In principle, child support should be set to enable the household where the child lives to maintain the lifestye and advantages that the child would have enjoyed if the parents were still together in the same household. Hence, the more the paying parent makes (or has), the more they would have spent on the child while living with the child. The child is not supposed to suffer a reduction in quality of life because the adult around him/her have decided not to be together any more.

Is it your child? Do you want your child to share your lifestyle? No problem then.
