They are not allergic, but they cannot metabolize it. Chocolate has caffeine and theobromine in it -- two bioactive chemicals which we have no difficulty metabolizing because we have liver enzymes which break them down fairly rapidly. Dogs don't have very much of these enzymes, however, and cats have none at all, which means that the molecules don't get broken down and rendered inactive. Imagine taking half-a-dozen No-Doz and not being able to work them out of your system for 4-6 days, and you have an idea of what caffeine and theobromine does to cats.

I asked my cousin that because she is a vet, and she said it is bad for them and should'nt be feed to them. They could get sick.

Carob treats for dogs are available though I've never noticed carob treats for cats. Please keep chocolate, in any form, away from your cat or dog. It is toxic to them - whether they end up vomitting, or with diarrhea or worse yet - die from it, it is not worth taking that chance.

You should not give chocolate to any animal, cat or dog. Its not that they are allergic but that there is a chemical in the chocolate that the animal cannot digest. You should contact a vet if they ingest lots of it, because it might shut down their system. Generally, if you love your animal, contact a vet just in case.

Food allergy may produce any of the clinical signs previously discussed, including itching, digestive disorders, and respiratory distress. We recommend testing for food allergy when the clinical signs have been present for several months, when the cat has a poor response to steroids, or when a very young cat itches without other apparent causes of allergy.

I think that they just might be. My cat loves ice cream and I usually let her have vanilla or something. I gave her some chocolate the other day and she threw up for awhile. :(
