I had this same problem with my car amp when I hooked it up. I could not figure out what the problem was for the life of me. So I went to Circuit city and talked to the guys and then pulled my deck right there at Circuit city and showed it to the guy and he told me my REM wire is hooked up wrong. So what it sounds like ot me is you have the REM wire connected to the wrong wire on your deck... The wires maybe the same color but its not correct. I cant tell you off hand what the other color is you have to hook it up to. Your best bet is to go to a car audio place and show it to them... Some of them are nice and will just tell you whats wrong with it without charging you. Goodluck.

The turning on and off may be because of your fuse housing or somewhere along your positive power cable you've got a bad connection.

The turning on and off may be because of your fuse housing or somewhere along your positive power cable you've got a bad connection. Or even your ground cable.

Did you use anything like super glue to hold the Ground cable in place while you screwed it into the bodywork of the car? Because if you did that'll be it, without a doubt. But there could still be a whole heap of different things. One thing I am beginning to think, though, is that the remote wire is possibly broken somewhere along the way. What Brand of wiring kit do you have?
