Absolutely. I think both countries are ready for it... it will only take as long as it takes for a candidate who comes along running on the right issues, not on race and "I'll be the first black...!"
-
It might be very soon, since Barak Obama is one of the potential candidates. Chances are he will not get the nomination though, and it will be Hillary Clinton. So instead of breaking the racial barrier, the gender barrier will be broken. The UK already had a female prime minister, so we would just be playing catch-up. :)

Possibly, though in Britain very few MPs are black, but I imagine the right candidate could well find themselves leader of either the Conservative or Labour party. If their party wins the General Election they would be Prime Minister.

I'm really hoping there will be in '08!
-
I think there will, sooner or later! The reason for this is that black people in the US are getting more and more opertunaties all the time and I can not see the US self destructing any time soon!!! I hope he will be like the guy from 24! Respect to him! LOL

Not until race stops being an issue.
-
As long as it takes for Obama to be elected. I dont think he'll give up if he doesnt make it this year, which I bet he will.
-
Sure, can happen whenever. Personally, I don't believe Senator Obama is the right choice for President at the moment. Nor did I think Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Alan Keyes, nor Monica Moorehead (black AND woman who ran for President, Senators Clinton and Obama) were the right choice at the time. Still, when that happens, I hope either would take the similiar high road coaches Smith and Dungy did when they both were head coaches at the Super Bowl, and it to be a total non-issue. I'd bet on the first black president or PM over the first openly gay, though.

im still waiting for the first catholic prime minister
-
yes i do. as a matter of fact barak obama is the american president and the first black man to become the "man-in charge." he already destroyed history books by becoming a candidate and now hes president so he really broke down the racial barrier
-
the institutions in the UK usaly make it harder for black peolpe to suceed but it is likly that a future labour govermant will bring in the first black leader within 10-20 years. But as asians have higher numbers then black peolple he is more likly to be chineise British then african british
-

It happened in the US 1 year, 5 months after you asked your question.
