Yes, I do. Those pagents aren't for the kids they're for the adults. Add to that the constant focus on looks and the way they dress them and it's no wonder the girls go up like Miss America.

I think it is wrong. The daughter probably does not really want to compete but does to please the mother. It is almost a form of child abuse.

Yes, if it's done continuously, in the long run they are. I think most of those parents are projecting their needs and desires through their daughters. Same can be said about parents that put excessive pressure on children to excel in other fields, athletics or academics for example.

Seen it first hand. Disgusting. The child is harmed without doubt.

This is a good Q about a very controversial topic considering the Jon Benet Ramsey case which brought the competitions darkside far into the spotlight. In my opinion such competitions are far lacking in merit as it focuses more on the material aspects of life, ie; im better looking, prettier, dressed, than you are. I lack to see the value of such competitions. Not all children win such competitions, so in turn they may not feel worthy enough to compete in the future or worse, compete in society. I think it defines the morals of the parents and devastates the social mentality of the child. It matters not the appearance of the child, it matters not their talents, what is important however is the appearance of how a child apply's their talents for the benefit of society and themselves. Such contests are nothing short of a cattle call, for insecure parents to show off to eachother their oppressive nature, and to expose their own failures. I have sympathy for any child in those competitions, but I have no respect or pity for their parents.
