  • Stop feeling guilty. It's rude to drop in on people uninvited. I think your reaction is perfectly reasonable.
  • Yes, yes, yes. I feel exactly this way and your rationale is mine exactly, too. My husband's family does not understand this at all and think me rude, but I agree with the other post that it is actually a rude thing to drop in without prior warning... also, I would like to have our place picked up and make some food prior to visitors. Just a quirk of Mine, I guess.
  • I feel the same as you. It's often enjoyable to be alone, not having to answer to anyone's wants or needs but your own.
  • Yes! I absolutely HATE company. I do not entertain, and people know better than to "stop by", I wont answer.
  • Why should I feel guilty for minding my own business?
  • You can't turn people off and on like a water faucet. As you get to know each other, you could bring this subject up at an appropriate time to avoid any hurt feelings in the future.
  • I used to be made to feel guilty when (uninvited) visitors would complain that I'm not being a very good host because I'd not cater to them. Then I figured how rude it is to just show at someone's doorstep without calling, infact, double rude for complaining. Also inviting themselves over like saying "I'm coming over for dinner or whatever tomorrow" - like hell you are! So, I either ignore the doorbell or say I'm very busy. If they can't be polite to call first, I can't care less to entertain them. I love my space and privacy.
