Put a material around the outside of the cage so that he cannot see out. Some outside sight may be stressing him out. You have a cat in the house perhaps?

He might need a bigger cage , a wheel, or just somthing to do. Give him some toys to play with like a paper roll or hang some stuff in its cage. if that dosnt work put him in a hamster ball and let him run around for an hour.

sometimes a bigger or 2nd cage cage added will do the trick but most of the time u have to get a hamster ball for them to run in. use tape on the lid because they pop open. let them run til they stop---make sure u r around cuz as i said the lid can pop open---just listen for him u dont have to watch. then put him back and if he hasn't had enough he'll start chewing the cage--then u can just let him run some more. my girl runs for about 3-4 hrs with hourly water/food breaks. i know when shes had enough because she doesnt chew and goes to bed. they r used to running in the wild for 5-6 miles and they want this freedom. this is safe freedom. $5 at petstore or even walmart. he'll then just chew to let u know he's ready to get out. what time does yours wake up in the evening? this is when u will have to let him out. don't wake him to run. i go to bed at 1am so mine runs from 9 pm-1am with breaks every hr. my other one is blind so shes not nocturnal & runs in the day. as for not drinking his water, how do u know? try marking the bottle so u can see if the level has went down. they only drink a couple teaspoons a day. if he's not drinking he'll get dehydrated and that's a real problem & he'll need pedialyte. not drinking is a sign of illness. why exactly do u say he's stressed? what are all the symptoms? myspace.com/hammie_help

if your hamster is trying to escape a lot it's probably bored or it's cage is not comfortable. try picking it up more or put it in a ball to tire it out. try putting different bedding in or cleaning its cage. if your hamster is not drinking its water it might be because it does know how or it can't. if it hasn't drunk for several days take the bottle out and feed it directly to him... if this doesn't work try changing the water or getting a new bottle. good luck

Well these animals don't drink the same amounts of water as us,and has small amounts. And probably drinks at night because it's nocturnal.

well try picking him up, putting him in the ball, making him a run genrally letting the hamster out more. its like being in prison for them. also when i first got my hamster i didnt see him drink in the first week or something and got really worried. but he was fine in the end. goodluck
