  • Do you know if the want to HEAR it or not first? Because you could do more damage that way, if not.
  • Try Love, it never fails and it always speaks of its “author”. It’s been said, “…always preach the Gospel, and if you must, use words.”
  • That is a hard question to answer, as each situation is so different. In most cases, it is best to listen more than speak, and show the love of God through your actions until God gives you the chance. Years ago, I was doing a video course on the Four Spiritual Laws, and the guy said that we ought to write down on paper the names of three people we really wanted to lead to Christ and pray that God would give us the opportunity that week to speak to them. He also warned us that GOd would take it seriously, so don't do it unless you were prepared for the consequences. With great trepidation, I put my mum at the top of the list. She and I had a difficult relationship at the best of times. She had also become increasingly bitter and cruel over the years. The worst thing was that she had acquired a gambling habit.Anyway, I prayed. THE NEXT DAY, she rings me and tells me that she has gambled her whole wage away and that dad would kill her if he found out. She wanted to borrow some money from me. My husband was at Bible College at the time and we were living on air, even with two days work I was getting a week, but I knew that this was exactly what I had prayed for- an opportunity to speak to her about her life and about Jesus. So I took a deep breath and said, "Yes, mum, I will lend you the money, but you have to give me 15 minutes of your time." She was so desperate, she said yes, but by the time she got to our house, her defences were up. She was very snappy. Nevertheless, she knew she had to go through the 15 minutes, if she wanted the money, so I took her through the Laws. She balked at the idea of being a sinner, protested that she wasn't such a bad person...I challenged her softly, but let it go when I could see she was getting too agitated. I knew that it was not the time for her to see herself clearly yet. But it came....years later. When I saw her, crippled with cancer, after she had run away to Queensland to escape some home truths I told her, she said "I don't know where you got your faith. It wasn't from me. But I'm sure glad you didn't give up." You can read the eulogy I gave at her funeral on our website: www.webpastor.com/barbara.htm All the best. I will be praying for your specific situation.
