  • The Bible does teach tolerance...
  • Answer me this.... What does this verse mean? "Deuteronomy 6 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth"
  • Sure there's something in there about turning the other cheek....
  • Let's try this for an answer. The Bible teaches relative tolerance. There really is no absolute tolerance or absolute control. Almighty God, by virtue of being the Creator and Designer of everything has the right, even the responsibility to set standards. Being a God of love, he gives all intelligent creatures very wide latitude in living their lives. He, and by extension his followers, give others a lot of room for varying tastes, opinions and ways of doing things. Outside that wide range, things get dicy. As an adherent of the Scriptures, i am very tolerant as to letting others live their lives. If other folks want lifestyles that i 'don't approve of', that is their business and i won't tell them that they have to change. On the other hand, i won't choose them as my companions. I think that this is a balanced view of tolerance.
  • The Bible I read did teach tolerance. But if a person wants to take a few separate quotes and twist them out of context, the Bible can be made to appear to say anything, it can even be made to appear as if it teaches intollerance.
  • god hates tolerance.
  • Wher do we find love your neighbour as one of it's most important tenets. If someone hits you turn the other cheek etc. that speaks of tolerance and is bible teaching. I suggest you read the book before you ask the question!
  • I always thought it did.
  • The Bible does teach tolerance, with codicils, as does any system of belief. -Love your enemies; pray for those who persecute you -do to others what you would have them do to you But, there comes a time when you have to stand up for what you believe is right. That means opening one's mouth in defence of God and his Son Jesus. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
  • The Christian Bible is the underlying basis for the religion. The most cohesive, universal belief in Christianity is that there is ONE single deity, and one way to worship that deity. (Although denominations differ on what that way is.) As such, all other beliefs are, by definition, wrong and against the single deity. It is very difficult to teach tolerance of that which is wrong.
  • Jesus commanded us to love one another, to forgive seventy times seven, to remove the plank from our own eye before bothering with the speck in our neighbor's, and not to throw stones unless we ourselves are without sin. And to judge not, lest we be judged. The teachings of Jesus in the Gospels are full of tolerance. To find intolerance, you need to look to Leviticus, the Pentateuch generally, and the epistles of Paul. Anything you want to find is in the Bible somewhere, if you look hard enough.
  • Why don't you read it for yourself and then you will know that it does in fact teach tolerance!
  • because that means losing a bit more control over the masses
  • because the men who wrote the bible, didnt believe, nor practice tolerance
  • Amamzing as the the Bible is suppose to be the word of God and all of the Bible is the word of god and I was taught to believe every word. really scary when you read Deuteronomy 13:6-10 and see the Bible teached stoning just as the Quran does to the non believer. That's not a forgiving or loving God, so what say you. Are you saying we can pick what we want to live by and ignore the rest. Maybe we need to just stop judging and let everyone believe what ever they want, life would be so much nicer and I believe God the spirit of God I should say will guide us accordingly.
  • What do you mean by tolerance? A modern and perverse idea of tolerance requires not simply allowance but assent to all ideas and behavior as if all things were equally true. Reasonable tolerance is allowance of something you disagree with though you may disagree or peacefully oppose it. And yet that is not absolute tolerance, as there will always be some things which a society cannot allow to exist, for which there is zero tolerance. It is the Bible that teaches beneficial tolerance, especially as compared with what is seen under beliefs such as Islam or atheism (belief in unbelief). And a healthy form of intolerance. Under the Old Testament theocracy, religious violence was against on going destructive and malignant immorality, which was the result of idolatry, yet such was geographically and ethnically limited, and required manifestly evident Divine attestation to be accomplished, such as the seen under Moses and Joshua. And under the promised New Covenant (Jer. 31:31-33), instituted at Jesus death (Heb. 9:16), religious violence is disallowed*, and thus no physical force was used N.T. church in seeking to defend or expand the faith, nor did the N.T. church rule in civil matters over those without. Moreover, even necessary discipline of those within was by spiritual means (Acts 5:1-12; 1 Cor. 5:11; 2 Ths. 2:13; 2 Tim. 4:2; Tts. 1:13) Rather than using physical force to work morality, the charter of the church is to bring souls to be controlled from within by God and conscience, so that they need not be controlled from without, but the State's means for the latter is sanctioned by Scripture**. God controlled versus gun controlled. While the pacifist teaching of the New covenant may allow one to be employed in "Caesar's household" and use it's means for civil control (versus religious purposes), or perhaps even personally use some immediate force in defense of the life of others from a real and present non religious physical danger, it disallows religious warfare such as things like the Inquisitions or the Crusades, and which things actually required ignorance of the Bible as well as the autocratic authority of mortal men over it (which places the bodies as well as the souls of good men in peril). As for atheism - seeing that is what the questioner seems to be - it's rejection of any transcendent objective moral authority in favor of what seems reasonable to them can easily justify atrocities such as seen under Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, etc, as their own "golden compass" can easily point south. And as man will always worship something, it fosters the practice of "State religion" such as seen under Kim Jung 2 today, in which a leader and or the county effectively become god. to their own hurt. * (Luke 20:25) "And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's." (John 18:36) "Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." (2 Cor 10:3-4) "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: {4} (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)" (Eph 6:12) "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (1 Cor 5:12) "For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?" **(1 Pet 2:13-14) "Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; {14} Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. (Rom 13:4) "For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." ------------------------------------------------------ (Mat 5:39) "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." (Rom 12:19) "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (1 Pet 2:19) "For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
  • If we have the Holy Spirit inside of us we do. Its one of the fruit's of the spirit. Self control same thing.
  • Tolerance of what? Others? Evil? Sin? First of all, read 1 Tim 3:15 to find out what is the pillar and defender of the truth is. The Bible, rightly understood and taught by Christ's Church, teaches that we should be tolerant of others for Christ's sake. The Church also teaches we should be tolerant of evil, but we must never do evil (sin) even if we think it is for what we think is a greater good. The ends do not justify the means. I summary, love the sinner, hate the sin. Let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. Never call the truth a lie and call a lie the truth -- no matter what.
  • It teaches you to be kind to people and not kill anyone.
  • When Jesus was dying on the cross people were spitting on him, making fun of him, saying cruel things to him, and telling lies about him. They had beat him with rods and with their fists. They had shredded his back with a very cruel torture device made of leather strips with bits of sharp lead and peices of bone in it. They had jabbed thorns in his scalp and driven huge spikes through both hands and his feet. They had stripped him naked and gambled for the only thing on this earth he owned, his clothes. They were getting ready to jab a spear into his side in just a matter if minutes and he knew it. Yet as he hung there in agony he said, "Father, forgive them. They don't know what they are doing." You can't get any more tolerant than that.
  • Tolerance of what? The Bible teaches tolerance of differences in: + Culture + Race + Social condition + Nationality + Gender + Language + Talents + Ministries The Bible teaches intolerance of: + Sin + Immorality + Injustice + Mistreating the poor + Mistreating widows and orphans + Mistreating aliens in your country With love in Christ.
  • The Bible teaches in-group tolerance, out-group hatred. It's a jumbled up collection of primitive texts and stories, what else can you expect?
  • it absolutely teaches TOLERANCE but most importantly it will TOLERATE teaching nothing less than TRUTH... and no, its not which part we read or talk about...it is nothing more than how u understand the WORD...ur own reasoning....nothing is more IGNORANT than a question such as "Why do we need the OT?" it shows a complete lack of understanding and no one can gain KNOWLEDGE of God or HIS WORD with this close minded attitude or blindness...every verse in HIS book has a REASON & PURPOSE...thats what makes it so AMAZING...they are so many examples to learn from; parent partiality!! why plural marriages are not good!! why GOD destroyed the idol worshipping, even children!! the answers are there ...but Satan has power over these people and the ones who work against satan has power over him!!!!!!
