Well, if your options are leaving the child alone and watching the kid, I'd say take the higher (sucky) road and watch the kid. Or bring them along. But really, try to compromise with your parent(s) and see if they can work around your desire to get out and explain how important it is to you. If they are going to leave the child in your care whether you want to watch them or not, I'd say I would feel morally abligated to make sure they were well taken care of because if something ever happened it would ruin my life. If you must, hire a sitter that you trust and then get out, and see if your parents will pay or at least split the cost with you.

Who's the kid? Family? Friend? Are you getting paid? How often do you have to "watch" him? Did you make a promise? Lot's of things to consider here besides your feelings if you made the obligation or if it's family, or whatever.
