  • are you saying that they are paid to parade or what?
  • Not using tax payer dollars, no group should get tax money for something like that.
  • No, but they should be allowed to do it useing their own dollars.
  • 1. Lesbians are homosexuals. 2. Tax dollars are spent on more frivolous things... a parade is the least of our problems.
  • I suppose it is no different than tax payer dollars paying for a Christmas parade...not everyone celebrates Christmas. But no, I don't think either one of these situations is right, but not because they are gay.
  • Yes, just not a lot, which it isn't.
  • The government holds and subsidizes a Black History month, do they not? Tax dollars go towards funding and cleaning up after Christmas and Easter parades, right? If other "Minority Groups" get special treatment such as their own months, and if religious holidays get their own government support for parades, then I'd say that gay people, who may I remind you, are also taxpaying people, have every right to their pride and to their pride parades. And in any case, does it really *Matter* what the parade is for? These are, for the most part, taxpaying citizens, and last I checked people were free to have parades in most countries apart from say... Germany, in the 1940's.
  • I would bet that all of those people pay taxes, too. It's possible that some of those police officers are gay along with the street cleaner and garbage man. A parade is typically a happy occasion. I'd like my taxpayer's money going for something like that any day rather that paying for a war that's lasting too long, paying for the meals of murderers sitting in prison not contributing to society.... Yep, go ahead and have the parade. I'll just plan to go somewhere else that day - no problem for me.
  • Is there any difference than the tax dollars used for illegal immigrants? Tax dollars for overtime for police officers to have to work?
  • How about Christmas parades, Easter parades, and so on. If you want to go there, why should religions enjoy tax-free status on property? Don't get me started.
  • As long as other groups do, yes, I think they should.
  • considering the vast number of other parades that a lot of major cities have for almost every holiday, what difference does it make in having one more? if we are not to be allowed to have a parade, then why should anyone else be allowed to? no one is denying any other minority their parades.... ....and as a citizen who is employed full-time and pays taxes, I want my parade, too! it's a lot of fun anyway, and I get to spend time with a lot of friends I don't see all of the time.
  • Celebrate-yes. My tax-payer dollars-NO.
  • Hi as we aslo pay tax then of course we should.
  • what??? gay people dont pay taxes like everyone else?
  • Well Gays and Lesbians pay taxes also so why not they aren't messing with you so let them do what they do
  • Yes, for sure! It's probably one of the best ways to use tax dollars.
  • H*ll Yes! Have you ever seen a gay pride parade? They rock. I'd pay admission and vote to spend some of my tax dollars for them.
  • Why not? We spend billions of dollars on failed space missions to Mars and not one single taxpayer gets to go on the ride. At least at parades its free to watch.
  • Why not, they pay taxes
  • Yes, just like Thanksgiving parades.
  • my little sister pays taxes and if she wants a parade she can have one!
  • Most Pride parades are part of a larger weekend, all week or in some cases all month Pride Festival. This brings a considerable amount money into the city. I would suspect most cities and city businesses embrace the increased revenues. And everyone knows the Gay community is not afraid to spend their money.
  • Yes, absolutely, if you are speaking of the U.S. We have the right to peaceably assemble. It is in our constitition and it is part of what makes the U.S. a great place. ALL people have this right and you cannot allow some people this right, and not everyone. Whether or not you agree with a cause, doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to do it. There are plenty of organizations that I find loathsome, but I would fight for their right of assembly just as much as I would for a group or organization I did believe in.
  • gay people are owners of public streets and pay taxes as well...Should straight people be allowed to celebrate Mardi Gras? Besides gay pride celebrations are usually a weekend long in Canada and bring millions and millions of dollars of revenue into the city.
  • Only if straight men and women can celebrate with a "Straight Pride" parade using tax payer dollars. This isn't meant to be judgmental, only fair.
  • I believe that they are as entitled to a parade at tax-payer expense as anybody else. How entitled that is is a separate issue, though I am not big on parades of any type in the first place regardless of who is paying, and especially if I am.
  • I'm not gay but as long as they aren't breaking the law and they have a permit, they're as entitled as anyone else is to have a parade. If I don't like it, I don't have to go. Seems simple to me.
  • Since Irish-Americans celebrate on public streets on St. Patrick's Day and Italian-Americans celebrate on public streets on Columbus Day, I would have to say that they should (although Gay Pride parades rarely use tax payer dollars).
  • No, not that they shouldn't be able to have parades, but tax dollars shouldn't be wasted on any parade. you can have all the parades you want just pay for them yourself and give me my money back because tax dollars should pay for any of them... quit raising my taxes for this madness..
  • If they have a problem with it they should deal with it. I am annoyed about the employment of homophobic police but I'm not whining and refusing to pay. It's a bad problem because some police are very irresponsible and intolerant so combine that with being armed and having "The law on their side".
  • why not? Straight people celebrate "straight Pride' everyday on the streets.,..and I assume gay tax dollars are used for gay people as well...
  • Yes. It's good revenue for the surrounding area. Lots of people on the streets = lots of people buying things.
  • Yes. The public infrastructure belongs equally to everybody.
  • I have no problem with a "Gay Pride" celebration/parade, but the only public funds that should be used for ANY parade is that spent for traffic control and law enforcement/police protection.
  • well at least they give plenty back to the community when they use the tax money...maybe the government officials could learn a thing or two from them and stop pissing our tax money up against the wall
  • all those facing discrimination should get support . religions get far more public money that homosexuals do . stop funding the religious sects and i agree we should fund our own marches ( we are richer that the straight ) i made 10 years gay pride marches in France an never got a dime of public cash then , i spent my own .
  • sure, as long as no one uses the word God in public. (heavy sarcasm)
  • IF, anyone is a victim of discrimination and it affects them financially or psychologically, then yeah I think it's fair enough :/
  • I have gay family members and friends', but no I don't believe they or anyone else should be. Yes, you have the right, but if you want to celebrate use your own damn money!
  • I don't have a problem with it. I always thought it would be kind of fun to start up a "Straight Pride" parade, or a "Bi Pride" parade.
