First, please clarify why they are no longer thought of as Ameican cities!
-
Implicit in the question is an inference that the cities mentioned are no longer "American" because of large immigrant populations, which seems like an invitation to that small minority of bigoted people who like to vent their spleen on immigrants, legal as well as illegal in some cases. Beyond that observation I don't have the knowledge to either agree or disagree.

I've been to Miami and you could make an argument for it's no longer being American in language but in every other way it is still American. Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta are as American as apple pie. I haven't been to the other cities. I don't think a large non-English speaking population makes a city un-American. I think it makes it more like early American. After all, America is packed full of places that have retained the customs of the people who made their homes there.
-
I guess that depends on how you define American. I, for one would say that they are neither more nor less American than they have ever been. If, in fact the question hinges on the "inference that the cities mentioned are no longer 'American' because of large immigrant populations (as per BryInLanza)" then I would ask which American cities are, or have ever been American? My family has been in Crawfordsville, Indiana for well over a century, but they originally came from many other places, including Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, Holland, France and Belgium. So, what's American? Is it a conglomeration of people who come from a different land? If so, then they are certainly American.
-
You mean because of all the immigrants, right? If so, then that doesn't make sense. Just because they're immigrants doesn't mean they aren't Americans. You don't have to be born here to be an American. Actually, they are more American than the "natives," because they actually went out of their way to get here.

Chicago is definitely an American city. The city that works!
-
I don't know, I've never been there. But is that really a bad thing? I mean, I can only give the view of a foreigner here, and culturally, Americans are globally maligned. Honestly, the way people talk you'd think the only good thing about America is the music - and with things like cheeseburgers, baseball, Thanksgiving and megachurches, I'm inclined to hold a similar opinion. Maybe becoming un-American is the best thing these cities can do.
-
Yes and no. Not the America that was.. but one that is without competent leadership quickly evolving into something right out of "Bladerunner".

This is patent nonsense. As noted by others, those who make this claim generally do so on the basis of the large immigrant populations in these "non-American" cities. Those claimants are demonstrating the typically American trait of being woefully ignorant of their own history. Large US cities have *always* been havens for large populations of immigrants. Just because those immigrants currently tend to come from Latin America, Asia and the Middle East rather than Europe does not make them (or the cities they live in) any less "American". Looks like there's still a lot of work to be done on the racism front...:-P.... . . http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1313744

Sometimes it feels more and more when people come to USA, they bring a lot of their own culture with them and don't want to change or meld into our society. Immigrant Business owners higher family member, or only those from their race etc.. They close during holidays the USA doesn't celebrate... Its true somewhere in our past are families immigrated to the USA...that how we all got there.. It does feel like as a white woman I have become the minority in LA. Another issue I have sometimes, is that the immigrants who own businesses look down on me and act like they I have no business shopping in their stores because I am white.Thats not very "American", well take money from anyone..lol

If that were true, then the only American places are the Reservations. Everyplace else is filled with Immigrants. Anyone who claims that old Immigrants are Americans and that new Immigrants are not is a hypocrite.
