If you're speaking of one of those text functions, I have the same thing (mine is called T9Word), and when I go to text, on the lower right hand corner, there is "options." From options, it gives me a wide variety of choices such as "T9Word," "ABC," "123," and "Symbols." For my phone, "ABC" gives me normal, manual texting. It depends on what kind of phone you have, though, so I can't say it will definitely work for you. There's a chance though, so it's worth a try. (I really hope you meant texting. =P)

If you mean when you text message, the settings for that would be in Tools or Settings for texting. If it is in looking up names, that is built into many phones. Not sure you can take that out, but it actually speeds things up when searching for a name to dial.

T9, I believe is the most common texting system that confuses people, check your manual on how to turn it off.

My phone came like that. While it's daunting at first consider using it! It's 10x better, now that I am accustomed. You know, rather then using the internet however it would be much more fair to others' time had you read the manual, as for your specific phone (of which you made no reference) there is no telling! And regardless you need to read the manual to be sure as models vary so greatly. If you can't find your model search the creator, try and find the model, and download the pdf manual
