I don't know but I laughed at the squirrels thing. I know for a fact squirrels are already highly "evolved" to raid bird feeders; can ruling the planet be far behind. lol
-
completely possible..there is one theory that if Dinosaurs had not become extinct that sentinant beings would have evolved form possibly the Trex or one of the other tyranosaurus species..
-
why do you consider our evolution as "getting lucky", natural progression, nothing lucky about it, we "are lucky" the right circumstances evolved to allow this planet to sustain any life
-
well after man destroys itself, something will surly take our place...
-
Indeed. Apes had the upper hand for many complex reasons. However if humans became extinct, who knows insects or birds may take precedence. There may be other planets where butterflies are the most successful, or frogs, or anything ! Even things beyond our comprehension - its a big universe - planets are different - some may not suit humans as well as other species known to us or extraterrestial.
-
Sure, but I think it would be a more hardy creature than the apes. I think you'd be more likely to see Planet of the Cockroaches. I think because of their physical toughness, they would have the best chance to evolve and grow into the dominant species on the planet.
-
Well so far we're evolving into a planet of idiots. Does that count?
-
Man will continue to evolve. Most likely our brains will empathize technical abilities at the expense of the arts.
-
Other species could evolve intelligence, yes. But technology is another mater. For them to take over would be as difficult as a group of primitive tribesmen with sticks and arrows taking over New York. It's not about intelligence, it's about what weapons you have.
-
Not while we are here. "Winner takes all". While we are here we will suppress any competitors. If we kill ourselves off, yes, I would expect to see another along in a few million years.
-
Not while mankind is around. We have filled the niche too completely. There is no room for another species to develop and fill the same niche. Once mankind dies out, that's another question!
-
Humans aren't going to be kicking around forever... We've been a dominant species for a few hundred thousand years at the most... and we're already looking like snuffing ourselves out... Birds and apes have already been seen using tools, and of course other species will 'take over' once we're gone.
