First off I hope you have paid the overdraft because if you have not satisfied those banks you can forget it. Yes there are some banks that will let you open an account but the downside is that they might in the beginning make you open a savings account linked to the checking and they will freeze your savings account for a while, you would not be able to withdraw out of it, they will use that as collateral. Every bank that you apply at will do a credit bureau check and it will mean that you are looking for credit or trying to do something financially and having trouble if they see no new accounts opened. Go to some of your local banks and explain to them just what is going on and do not let them pull a credit report unless they think they can help you based upon what you have told them, be honest because they will find out in 5 minutes just what is up with you. If they say they can help you then give them permission to pull your credit file, good luck.

They're probably looking at ChexSystems and not one of the major three credit bureaus, but the problem you're most likely encountering is that you went into collections. If this is the case, it'll remain on your credit report for 7 years from last activity. You may also be denied if you constantly bounced checks or were NSF before the overdraft protection. You'd probably have better luck trying to open an account with a credit union (if you can join) or online.
