  • They found a new planet about 20 light years away that seems an appropriate planet to support water and life. At such a great distance, it it difficult to get a lot of information about the composition of the planet... but it seems positioned correctly relative to its red dwarf sun to be a potential. Having said that, it could as easly be like Mars or Venus as it is like earth... or something we've never seen. Given current technology, it would be impossible to reach the planet within a span of a human life.... so, who knows the next step
  • They have found a planet which is the right distance from its sun, that its temperature MAY be able to sustain life, and MAY contain water. Its way to early to say for sure.
  • Potentially habitable planet found By SETH BORENSTEIN AP Science Writer Potentially habitable planet found WASHINGTON: For the first time astronomers have discovered a planet outside our solar system that is potentially habitable, with Earth-like temperatures, a find researchers described Tuesday as a big step in the search for "life in the universe."
  • I don't think the presence of life is inevitable. Nobody knows whether it's like the earth and presenting an ever-changing face to its sun or like our moon, which permanently presents the same part of its surface to the earth. It's conceivable that half of the planet is in permanent light and heat and the other half is in permanent darkness and cold.
  • ive heard that also.... but its hard to know what to believe and what not to believe. even if it is from the government..
  • Not neccessarily, water is not the only basis for life. Haven't they already discussed that there is ice on titan, one of the moon's in our universe. Even if life does exist on another planet, people dream of intergallatic conversations. In reality we still do not have the first clue about a lot of animals communications. Further study of the planets in question may yeild hopeful results, but I doubt any of the actual findings will tie in with the aspirations we project on them.
  • This is archtypical of Media's interpretation of the scientific fact. Discovery of the planet near its sun is primary 'calculative' and observational. Interpreting the Data is still very subjective, although, computers are making headway in this domain. However, at the end is the eye and the brains of the onlooker that decides what is seen or detected. I would wait before buying any real estate there.
