  • In american english, "Scots" can be pejorative, "Scotch" even more, talking of Scottish people. It depends of the region and the local antipathies. But I think Scottish people have burden enough with their reputation of stinginess. Anyway, in Germany for the stinginess jokes they use the Swabians. Source: Kenneth G. Wilson (1923–). The Columbia Guide to Standard American English. 1993. http://www.bartleby.com/68/22/5322.html But you are not wrong, many of them have achieved great things and sometimes they are very popular.
  • I am Scottish, I stay in Scotland. The English call us Jocks, they accuse us of meanness and being drunks. We get ridiculed for occasionally wearing kilts, for our accent, for being losers (in sport generally). We get ridiculed for not being English, essentially. But the Scots are a arrogant breed. We have an old phrase: "Wha's like us? Damn few, an' they're aw deid!" Lots of people around the world like the Scots. But really, we're just like everyone.
