  • I experienced the same problem a while ago after running a color cartridge out of ink. The replacement cartridge wasn't recognized by the printer so I called Lexmark Support. They suggested I clean the printing contacts both in the printer and on the cartridge. This still didn't help. I returned the replacement cartridge for another one. It worked fine for about 4 print jobs, then it quit too. Another replacement cartridge is still not being recognized by the printer.
  • I finally broke down and called the customer support hotline. Cleaning the printer head and contacts was not the problem. Fortunately, I had actually remembered to send in my warranty and registration card when I purchased the printer. It was still under the one year warranty (I had used it 11 months!). They sent me a reconditioned printer the next day (overnighted it to me). This printer had a problem with the carriage return (it slammed up against the side of the printer when it returned) so they sent me ANOTHER printer... overnight!!!!! They also paid for the postage to return both of the other printers. LEXMARK ROCKS!!!!
  • I too have this problem - cleaning the print contacts didnt help. Reloading the software and drivers just made the cartridge icon in the ink levels screen disappear completely. Unfortunately mine is out of warrenty by 8 months. Ready to dump the whole thing in the river and get a HP.
