Yes it is possible. It is a condition known as hemorroid. What happens is that the intestine tissue expands and dilates, increasing its area and reaching the exterior through the rectum, causing severe pain while seating. These are generally removed by a specialized proctologist through surgery if he/she finds it fit to do so.

Actually, a hemorrhoid is not the intestine protruding from the anus. They're collections of tissue and vericose veins that are located in and around the anus. Most are internal. If they're large enough and located near the opening, they can protrude. The rectum can protrude through the anus in what's knows as "rectal prolapse." The question is asking, I assume, about some sort of horror movie type setting. Given that the large intestine is anchored within the body by connective tissue and is supplied with enormous amounts of blood vessels, the answer to the question would be: the person would likely bleed to death within a short period of time.

Yes. I remember watching a reputable news story on a little girl that this happened to a few year's ago. It happens most often in wading pools, so it is not uncommon for very small children to sit in the same spot where the injury is not immediately noticed. Apparently this type of disembowelment has happened dozens of times, pool drain manufacturers have been sued because of it, and legislation is resulting. When it happens, the bowels are contaminated and cannot be returned to the body. The exposed intestine must be removed and other internal organs may also need surgery or transplantation. Even then, tube feeding and alternative waste extraction measures may be necessary. Sadly, 6-year old Abigail Taylor died of complications. You are in trouble if that happens. Intestine is long about few feets.

This is a sterile area in the human body. once outside the body, with so many exposed blood vessels and body tissue, there is a definete possibility of bacteria attacking the intestine.

I think there's a condition known as anal or rectal prolapse. I don't know the details but it's a good starting point for your research. +2

a patient once told me that their dog had been poisoned by their neighbor with anti-freeze. the dog's colon protracted thru the anus. of course, it bleed and resulted in a horrific death. connective tissue almost always keeps the large intestine within the body. i agree with mister, i can't imagine why any one would want to know this.
