If you have a bank account in a foreign country, can you transfer money to your account in the US?

Yes, but there are hefty fees involved for such a transfer. I'm not an expert, and I can't tell you about every country. You'll have to ask someone at your bank (both of them) to be sure. But I live and work in France, and will soon be returning to the USA with the money that I have earned in France. My French bank told me that they could have the money transferred to my American bank account. However, they also said that the fees would be considerable. They actually recommended using my ATM card to withdraw the maximum allowed amount every day until I had cleaned out the French account, since the ATM surcharges would add up to less than the transfer fee.
