  • It is man's nature to apply his personal experience and observations to the way everything works, and man has learned that one way or another he has to work to get what he wants. Jesus came along and, among other things, showed man that he could have a right relationship with God, but that he could NOT earn it with works. Moreoever, He made claims of Deity unlike any other man could make (a. because they're true and b. because He could back them up with scirptures, prophecies and actions) and He gave us specific information on how to enter that relationship with God, which most men cannot accept because it requires them to set aside their own incorrect religious beliefs and accept something which seems illogical to them.
  • Because He left us on the horns of a dilemma. His life and teachings allow us to conclude that God came to earth as a man, lived absolutely righteously, and then suffered the unimaginably horrifying penalty of His own law so that He might forgive lawbreakers who would receive Him. Alternatively, He and His disciples were the most pitifully delusional people who have ever lived. I believe the former to be true, but at least the latter is logically consistent. There's one controversy. The great controversy comes from those who deny that He was God's Son, but who still want to claim that such a lying lunatic could have been a great moral teacher and example. The failure of logic in this position can do nothing BUT feed controversy.
  • I think because it asks us the most basic question, where did we come from? Is there more to life than just living and dyeing? and questions the big question, do we believe in God, or was there some "other force" that evolved into what we have today? If we say yes, There is a Jesus, then we then travel down a path that leads to God, Heaven, The Bible being a trust and actuate account of the world, and creation. If we say no, I don't believe in Jesus, then we have to question where did we come from? how did life on this planet start?, why are we here? There are many religions in the world, and many more people that believe that what we are today this is not a random course of events that just happened to work out as it did, but some greater or higher meaning to life. If Jesus is the person who is at the forefront of this, I could well understand why many would consider Him to be a controversial person. I also think we (humans) have a tough time believing in something we can't see and can't write down in point form. Belief is the key. Can you believe in something that you can not physically hold in your hands, pull apart and dissect peice by peice?
  • Jesus is controversial because he is alleged to have claimed that, as the son of a god, only through belief in him can one escape death and eternal damnation in hell. Some sayings attributed to Jesus are also controversial and seem to contradict, e.g., Luke 14:26 and Matthew 19:17-19. What did Jesus and those whom he purportedly directly instructed actually mean with their words, deeds, and actions? It is a question that has not been resolved 2000 years later, and likely never will. Thus, people throughout history have used Jesus to support a variety of behaviors, from the benevolent to the malignant.
  • I don't know that it is Jesus Himself that is so controversial as much as what has been done in His name. From a perspective of History as a discipline, Jesus is controversial because there is no evidence or proof of His existence external to what His followers wrote. (With the exception of a couple of highly contested and suspicious references by Flavis.)
  • Jesus is a large character in history due to the fact that the "Christianity" Religion spreads like a disease (No offense) Its like a huge fad, kinda like Chuck Norris :)
  • As Jesus said, “Do not think I came to put peace upon the earth; I came to put, not peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:21, 34) The truth of God's Word is like a sword that divides people, the humble from the proud, the teachable from the stubborn.
  • Because people claim he was a god.
  • Fact or fiction he is without doubt the greatest personality to have ever walked the Earth.
  • Hi,He changed the world,He changed the way people think. In His name there's healing of the sick (physically and sentimentally)A lot of miracles happened, just to name a few in my life,in His name my son was healed from his heart condition,in His name my mom came back to us after her kidnap. In His name I've changed to a better person.Even the way we date time ,AC(AFTER CHRIST BC(BEFORE CHRIST) Like Napoleon said ,that there was no one like Jesus that can inspire soldiers like Jesus did.Even the way our country was established and inspired "The declaration of Independence ."God bless you all!
