  • The way that people want to force their religious beliefs into government; thereby, forcing them on everyone else.
  • child and woman predators, old people prdators disabled people predators
  • The way the media manipulates society.
  • How narrowminded our culture as a whole, can be. Our way is better, and if you don't like it... die.
  • Nuclear bombs and environmental degradation.
  • The absolutely selfish and self-serving mentality that plagues most people. Everyone is only concerned about themselves getting instant gratification. Two lessons that the world needs to remember NOW: 1) Good things take time and are worth waiting for. 2) The love you get is equal to the love you give.
  • Apathy and lazyness
  • no one listens to good music anymore! and no one likes quality and they'd rather go for convienience
  • Politics are making us go to war and all these murderers
  • As others have said, apathy irks me to death. The environment: I work at a place that wastes paper to no end and doesn't recycle. I know people that don't like recycling because it takes a little longer than throwing everything into one wastebasket. The government: If you actually took the time to look into all of what the Bush administration has done to scar the reputation of the US, you'd be ashamed as I am. The ubiquitous ridicule that this administration receives is well-deserved. But then again, you have better things to do than pay attention to the government. Like watching TV. Youth: Because teenagers are big consumers, advertising caters to them. "Manipulates" is a better word. Ads bank on the fact that teenagers sincerely believe that they are adults. Don't believe it. I'm not a Bible-thumper or a sign-toting hippie, but I'm telling you right now that ads are manipulating you. Period. But no one cares.
  • Many, many things. -The level of cruelty and desensitization towards violence, not only in the youth but also present in many fully grown adults. -Loyalty to authority and the establishment taking priority in most people's minds far above loyalty and kindness towards other individuals. -The fact that this society is turning out as many sociopaths, psychotocics, pedophiles, and abusers as it is. -The way that science and medicine have taken over as 'The New Religion to The Masses. -The lack of social developement. Many people seem to never develope emotionally or socially beyond the age of 15-17. There are many disturbing aspects present in modern society. And the part that's really disturbing is that there's this long of a list even excluding the "Big Issues" like world hunger and AIDS. I'm only talking about Social Issues here, and it's *Still* extremely disturbing.
  • People's ignorance, and the big gap between rich and starving...
  • it disturbs me how little most people care about others and how badly some people get treated. also, i don't understand people who think we can just trash the earth and bomb the s*** out of other countires without suffering the repercussions.
  • I am disturbed by the fact that young children have become so numb to violence and turmoil. They see so many images of war and drugs and violence on TV that it doesn't even have an impact on them anymore. It really makes you wonder if it hardens thier emotions and humanity over time.
  • The fact that so many people hold such ignorant views regarding other cultures and religions. You would have thought after so many advancements in the past century that society wouldn't have neglected to educate children on equality for all human beings but unfortunately this seems to be the case. Racism and bigotry are such awful blights on society today yet the majority of people seem to just accept this. The media often accentuates these narrow minded views rather than challenging them and rather than dying out the prejudice seems to be 'evolving'. It disgusts me.
  • The excessive meddling of government in everyday life
  • 62 million people voted for George W. Bush. 59 million people voted for John Kerry. 0 people voted for me.
  • rap music lol
  • The idea that might makes right, how people like to dominate others, the way we treat the natural environment, and overpopulation.
  • Too many people who only care about themselves, and the notion that you are worth what you have. You could be the best human being you can be, but if you are broke, you don't count. That's sad and unfair.
  • senseless killing like what happened at VA Tech The VA Tech shooting were so awful, I like many parents are worried about my child's safety at school. I found a couple of articles that help alleviate fears and iv guidance about how to talk to kids about the shootings, just wanted to share them. Safety at Your Child's School http://www.familiesonlinemagazine.com/school_safety.html Tips for Talking to Children About the Shootings http://www.familiesonlinemagazine.com/school-shooting.html
  • The profound interest in watching the tragety of others on television through constant news coverage.I find the whole thing distorted.
  • Political Correctness.
  • I am truly disturbed by how the teen/ young adult part of society goes around calling eachother whores and sluts like it is a "cool" thing. I assume that they know what those words really mean, at least i hope they do. No one in their right mind wants to be called something that means they sleep around, right? Just back, what 5 years ago, people would be completely offended if someone were to call them a whore.
  • How people seem to take sex, love and marriage so lightly.
  • How gullible people are and how people have the idea that being ultra citizen is a good thing.
  • There seems to be a rampant selfishness and a streak of meanness developing in society today. The whole "me generation" thing. It's odd - we live in bigger communities than at any other time in history and record a greater level of loneliness than has been recorded at any other time in history...
  • The fact that privacy is all but gone. Good question
  • Nothing is as it seems. Lobbyists make contributions to both sides to hedge their bets, it's ONLY about profit, money, power...whether it's govt, business, law, politics, religion or sports ....Try reading the propositions on the next ballot.
  • How bout the fact that (in USA) ads are everywhere, in streets, on radio, product placemt in movies, on AB. Can't get away from them.
  • Lack of compassion and not taking responsibility for actions. Many people have lost sight of the Golden Rule: treating others as you'd like to be treated. Most people are only out for themselves and cannot see how their actions affect the people around them.
  • That dispite having access to more information than ever before, the masses still remain gullible.
  • There is much that disturbs me about modern society. Please bear in mind that I was raised VERY "Old World" by a Romanian Rromani (Rromani is "Gypsy") father who sired me later than most do. My mother died birthing me but, from what I heard of her, I would not have been allowed to run riot by either of my parents. What disturbs me the most is permissiveness. I believe that permissiveness in parenting, law enforcement, excess liberalism (I am a moderate by the way) is allowing and, in fact, contributing towards the downfall of western civilization. Literally. The youth of today know that they can get away with anything. Parents cannot be strict or they face legal dilemma. Youths know that the law is going to be lax with them so we are raising a generation of hoodlums unless the parent is willing to take the time and the flack for raising a child "right". After that I feel that the growing rift between wealthy and poor is amongst the greatest threat to today's society. The middle class is evaporating and families are a paycheck away from homelessness. The social measures in place to help in emergencies are substandard and haphazard at best. There is no security for the majority of Americans. Another thing that bothers me is the state of healthcare in America. I am one with substandard healthcare and I know if I have a life-threatening illness I shall die. I cannot afford the medications. There is much for me to gripe about regarding this issue. I shall bring it to a close with this.
  • The apathy.
  • Our collective attention span is slowly being reduced to the duration and relevance of a 'sound bite', probably because the line between entertainment and news is almost invisible.('Paris Hilton To Do Jail Time' ...news or entertainment?)I can't help but wonder what this is doing to peoples' sense of values.
  • Godgobbing ad nauseum, and that filthy disgusting book called the bible being shoved into kids brains by the demented purveyors of all the horrific heinous acts depicted in it,page after page.Utter degradation and abominal events.Thankfully it's all made up rubbish.Unfortunately too many kids are made to believe it's true.
  • The fact that a small majority of people control most of the wealth (in Australia the top 5% of earners control 80% of our wealth), the fact that people are made to be heroes if they kill someone in a war, the fact that people still discriminate, prejudice and stereotype, the fact that companies like Nike are still getting away with exploitation of workers so they can remain dominant, the fact that i in 5 children worldwide grow up in an abusive family, the fact that women are more likely to be killed by there partner then anyone else, the fact that the gap between rich and poor is widening not shortening. Other than that, everything is great....
  • the way somebody can kill an innocent person and not feel guilt! that is the worst thing to have happen, die by another persons hand (or gun or knife or anything)and them not even be sorry for what happened... oh and the government
  • How people can't handle the truth and avoid it
  • The fact that people strive on celebrities these days. Like there is not enough going on with war, money, and just being active. Instead, people worry whether Lindsay Lohan's career still exists. Who gives a shit? Unless she's paying my bills, I'll care, but until then I wish people would worry about themselves and live their lives.
  • The fact that people truly care about things like Anna Nicole Smith when thousands of people are dying in a currupt and immoral war.
  • I am disturbed by how society is dominated by the idea of monetary gain. Where is the sense of advancing our society in any way? Lives are spent working for the house they are never in.
  • The national debt bugs me greatly. The baby boomers have borrowed against the future generation to fund their lifestyle. Now the next generation will have to pay for it in higher taxes, lower standard of living. I guess the boomer anit-gov and anti-corp hippies turned into yuppies and now into pensioners waiting for social security handout from the government. Peace! :)
  • The whole situation in Darfur.
  • The lack of love that people have for each other.
  • How little people care for one another, and how little compassion people show one another.
  • It seems as if it's becoming more and more of an "All About Me" society.
  • I think that maybe the question should be ... What doesn't disturb me about society today! Sad, but unfortunately becoming more & more true every day!
  • People across the globe that is letting go of their traditional culture/those things that make them unique to the rest of the world. In this modern era where the entire world is connected, we are busy developing a 'global village', and we are addopting cultural traits of different cultures. I love in South Africa, and we look at the West (the US,UK and Europe) and try to be like those people in terms of values, norms, clothes, behaviour, and lifestyle. I just think that each country should hold on to their tradition, and stop developing a 'global culture' - with no individual traits.
  • That adultery seems to be getting more and more acceptable.
  • the lack of communication between cultures
  • Ignorance of other people's cultures, and the complete lack of respect young people have for others.
  • What really disturbs and bothers me about our current society is their incapability to understand that every person is different, and that you can´t force others to think, act, and be as you want them to. It seems that people are convinced that you don´t have to feel ashamed for your acts, so, if you do something wrong, you have to be proud of it. People think that, if someone isn´t like the majority, he is retarded, mistaken, and a freak. But they are wrong, if we want to be respected and understood, we must start considering other people as equals. But be careful, that doesn´t mean that we must give the same to everybody, or that men and women are the same on every aspect. This means that we must give to each person what he or she trully deserves, and that men and women are equally capable of doing many things. It is true, some men are more capable of doing some things, other women are more capable of doing other thigs, but they are both capable of achieving a common goal: peace. It is not a matter of fashion, or authority. Everybody is equal to others, in dignity above everything, and I hope people understand it someday. This is all a matter of culture and education, and that will repeat all over again if people don´t understand that prejudice is wrong, and that you receive what you give. That means that, if you mistreat someone, you will be mistreated. If you prejudge, maybe you won´t be prejudged, but people will stay away from you, because you prejudge them, and that has consecuences. Something that also bothers me is discrimination, because it causes people to fight as if they were enemies. One example is discrimination against women: they are not considered because men think they are superior, but that is not true. On the other side, when showing respect to a woman we shouldn´t do it because she is a woman, but rather because she is a human being that has feelings and dignity. If you want a better society, think about others, think about how can you make a difference in the world. If you seek for happiness, look for justice. "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." John F. Kennedy "My happiness is to be the joy of someone else." Kris Kringle (ABer) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But here on Answerbag it is different, and I want to thank Jodie44 and every other ABer that has made of Answerbag what it currently is, a family.
  • The paranoia and violence we as a race are capable of.
  • The lack of discipline
  • The lack of compassion we have for one another.
  • Emos; go to my answer for "what is your view on emos?", religion; the unusual and far-fetched beliefs, conflict because of different religion, people from other countries trying to force their religion onto spoken for people(muslims, hindus etc.) , unfair racism; Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali(australian muslim cleric) says australian women should be blamed for sex attacks and thats all i can think of right now. I also think internet pornography is becoming more and more widespread, for examle my little cousinwhos ten searched pie on google image search and pictures of vaginas came up, She also asked me what tossing a salad is. People using TV as a babysitter also pisses me off. Work out why. I bid you good day people- Bye
  • Lazyness and the lack of a conscience.
  • The way Society Portrays women to be. Magazines have models that are tall and thin. I don't think a woman has to be a certain size to fit into society, however, Society thinks much differently.
  • The lack of respect that people have for people. The feelings of selfishness, especially from our youth is truly sad.
  • What truly disturbs me about society today is the way women get pregnant with no regard for how they plan to raise a child. In many cases, they don't actually raise the child, their parents or other relatives do. The woman then proceeds to get pregnant with more children she won't be involved with and society ends up with a bunch of kids that no one really wanted, no one bothers to educate and then they wonder why those kids as young as 8 or 10 years old end up in gangs, and later, in jail or dead.
  • kids are so disrespectful
  • Narrow mindedness and the un-legalization of marijuana. What's the worst that can happen, we all drive 30 miles per hour and Mcdonald's goes up in buisness? <3 dollar menu.
  • the stranglehold religion has on it.
  • The corruption and how everyone is killing their own people, it's not safe to go out in the dark because dark has become so dangerous. We live in such a vicious world it's really scary.
  • Intolerance. Everyone seems to have some group, organization, etc. "that drives them crazy". Why? Waht ever happened to live and let live!!!
  • 1.) Our health care system that forces workers to be at the mercy of their employers just to be able to go to the doctor 2.) The treatment of low wage workers 3.) George Bush 4.) The so-called "war on drugs" 5.) The war in Iraq 6.) The vehicles of complacency: television, youtube 7.) The culture of overwork. Slow down people. 8.) George Bush 9.) Financial markets run amok We have strayed so far from the environment in which humans are adapted to live it is amazing that we survive at all. To wit- humans are supposed to (I say 'supposed to' as in naturally) live in small, tight knit communities. What we have now is basically the pursuit of isolation, with material goods being our consolation for our misbegotten lives.
  • the constant dumbing down of society as a whole. in other words; idiocracy
  • That people think they can do whatever they want, as long as it feels good, never thinking about how their actions effect other people.
  • The complaining.
  • Many things. But there is one I will list (that might not have been listed yet): That in this society, where social networking is becoming increasingly important, people in general are becoming more self-absorbed and exclusive. I also have a problem with the music business, since it's turned into more business and less actual music!
  • The coldness keeps growing colder.
  • Pychoatrists and social workers
  • The fact the society is doing the same thing to the gay/lesbian/bi/trans community that we did to the black community forty years ago. We're repeating history and we don't even realize it....
  • Young killers
  • ..Agreeing with kriskringle.. The higher authorities expect us all to have moved on with the times, at the same time. Like one big exodus to 'their 'unselfish 'future. They automaticaly assume that everyone has the internet for example.. Flashing us with websites n making it near on impossible to be up to date, and apply for things, without it! Tis all about the new new new, and its hard to stay static for too long. If you do your status seems to drop. 'Have you got the Internet'? 'No' A surprised 'OH' Is the answer. This is pushing out the old. N speeding up society. Leaving too many people behind. The old and poverty stricken especially.
  • A lot of things. One that comes to mind is this: when I was a kid. I was taught morals, respect, etc. had I said a curse word or an any way been disrespectful to anyone (adult, child, etc) I would have been punished and grounded until I was old enough to retire. Kids now a days have no morals. They don't respect authority. They don't have respect for themselves. There is no way I would have ever misbehaved in school. I knew better.. Kids today..will stand up to a teacher and say "I don't have to and you can't make me" and you know what..teachers can't do a thing..and parent's do nothing either. There are no morals anymore. When I was a kid, parent's were parents and kids were kids..now a days kids are adults and the adults have become so scared or just so indifferent that kids have taken over everything. then people sit by and wonder why our prisons are overcrowded or why are kids are using drugs, why teenage pregnancy/sex is on a rampage..kids have no good role models anymore.. It's really sickening. When our kids are afraid to go to school because some kid might have a gun, where have we as adults gone wrong..
  • Lack of respect for another persons life, the way people go round stabbing and shooting just because someone looked the wrong way at them or wouldnt hand over their wallet. It sickens and scares me, life is so cheap to these people, they dont stop to think or care about the families and friends of the person who 'looked at them wrong'.
  • The justice system, and how it's really nothing more than a corporation. It claims, functions and execution completely defies the definition of justice as they describe it. Police brutality. Poverty. And lastly, the treatment and dealing of misfortunate children such as victims of physical and sexual abuse or children who can't/ not allowed to live with either parent.
  • ignorance. People have become so self-consumed that they've forgotten about the real, important things of life. I just dont sometimes like living in this world. People can be extremely cruel sometimes. Times have seriosly changed and i dont like this idea of change. I can't imagine the world in 10 years time. Doesnt everyone miss the old times?
  • I could go on for a while here. But I would say first and foremost the gap between the rich and the poor. And secondly, hypocrisy of certain individuals.
  • What truley disturbs me is how the land of the plenty became the land of reserved seating.
  • -Selfishness, Greed -Cultural Ignorance -We clearly live in an oligarchy, and not enough of us are pissed about it. The rich get richer. America is owned and controlled by a small number of people/corporations. This is not Democracy. Why doesn't this completely piss off the rest of us hard-working, tax-paying Americans? -No respect for other people, no respect for our own bodies.
  • The use of technology rending apart face to face communication even within families.
  • Lack of morals and manners.
  • My biggest problem in society comes down to several things. First and foremost, no accountability. From the very top (president) to the avergae person. No one wants to be accountable for mistakes. Everyone wants to pass the buck and not take responsibility. Another problem I have is how we judge status through material goods. The more money, cars, and clothes somone has the more status he/she has, drives me crazy. Just goes to show how simple we are as a people. The last thing that kills me is how young girls idolize pop singers more so than strong intellingent woman in this country. If you would to take a sensus of girls 18 and under of who they would rather be : Brittan Spears/Christina Aguilera or Hillary Clinton/Sarah Palin The results would so much in the pop singers favor its disgusting.
  • My answer is targeted mainly at our youth, and since we are the responsible party for teaching them(I am a parent) it must be our fault! We have to fix it! Lack of accountability...it's always someone else's fault. (Hot McDonalds coffee anyone? This is what we're teaching them. That common sense is obviously no longer valued nor important to our everyday survival and well being.) Lack of respect for anything, anyone, anytime, anywhere! Lots of "any's", but I think the key to this one is their own lack of respect for themselves...fix this, and we'll fix it all! But how? Severe lack of honesty! Everyday in the news, someone is clearly lying...in the courtroom, in the WhiteHouse, in politics, in sports, your co-workers, your boss, in religion, and yes, even you! And there is rarely any consequence! It is so unbelievably accepted in every avenue of our daily lives, that we have all succumbed to the fact, and ironically the truth, that we will be lied to. So we merely accept this as normal behavior, and attempt to continue on with our routines as if nothing detrimental has happened, when in fact, it remains the single most destructive behavior towards our relationships, our friendships, and of course our children, who now have learned to use it against us as well as their peers for whatever gain necessary at the time. Which brings me to my last truly disturbing aspect of our society...Extreme selfishness...everything is me, me, not now, but "right now" me! No patience whatsoever, and I don't care what anyone else around me wants, or needs, I gotta have it this very millisecond or there will be hell to pay! This is certainly a direct result of the instantaneous gratification of the internet, video games, and other game & console oriented machines, like ipods, am-fm-HD radio/mp3 players. Don't get me wrong, technology is a driving force in our human progression towards ease of existence and well being, however, we have to find a way to catch up and address the ramifications it is clearly having on our youth(adults as well) or we will be doomed to suffer huge consequences we cannot even yet imagine. Just a few years ago, if you wanted to talk to your friends or relatives, you had to get up, go to the nearest phone, dial a number, and wait for them to answer, or leave a message to call you back since they were very rarely at home. If you wanted to play a new video game, or watch a new movie, you had to get up, walk, ride or drive to the nearest video store, rent one, or buy one, then walk, ride, or drive back home, put it in and watch it or play it. Now, in just a few short years, to talk to anyone on the planet, just reach in your pocket, press the speed dial button & there they are...wherever they are, 'cuz they have the same tech phone. Did I mention, that if you do have to wait for more than a couple seconds your phone can also play music, video games, movies, or you can take pics or vids of the nearest attraction while you're waiting for them to "shout back"? To watch a new movie or play a game just sit right there on your butt and download it...there ya go. It's no great wonder about the last issue, selfishness/patience, as those are slowly but surely sinking in as "problems"...but the others accountability, respect, and honesty don't appear to be as alarming to everyone else. In my eyes they desperately need to be addressed...not now, but right now! Point to note: A certain political party a few years ago lied, cheated, misled, and stole to get a guy and his vice the most powerful position on the face of this earth. In return, these guys lied, cheated, misled, and stole from us and everyone else in this world, every day since, putting us in one of the darkest positions our country has ever seen. This cannot happen again, and it will not, if we teach & practice "accountability", "respect", and "honesty". Selfishness and patience might need to be waived here for the good of our country as well as the others. 68XLR8R
  • Greed....
  • The people. ;-)
  • glorification of sex regarding men and women lack of responsibility for one's own mistakes lack of respect for those who aren't mainstream or extreme enough to demand respect materialism among every age group lack of respect for the elderly but lack of patience for the youth (though sometimes i don't blame them) the way people pick and choose when to separate church and state the uneven distribution of money ....i could go on but i have an essay actually due that i should be writing
  • how low people's self esteem has gotten because of people thinking they're better than someone, therefore putting someone else down
  • That we care more about who is dateing Angelina Jolie than how to fix our economy.
  • All the sexy women I'm afraid to look nowadays after watching Jerry Springer. At a glance if you know what im talkin about.
  • The lack of respect for other and lazyness.
  • BALTIMORE city.
  • I hate the parts of society that Bob Marley reefer-ed to as babylon. I have never seen any other animal get up, go to work in the morning, go to the grocery store, come home and cook dinner for the wife and kids. Hummanity started living for itself and rapping us up in materialistic devil worship instead of living for the sake of the world and holding our place in the universe and NOT OVERSTEPPING THOSE BOUNDS.
  • It's ignorance, willingness to accpet whatever those in charge give them, and cold indifference to the importance of the right to live. People are oh so willing to accpet whaever is told to them as long as its what they want to hear or means they don't have to think for themselves, and thusly, viciously defended or support it while not having any idea of its true meaning or purpose. I'm sorry but sometimes I want to tell people to get up off their lazy asses and think for themselves. Otherwise any fanatic with publicity and strong abilities to move people will continue to force incredibly destructive, barbaic and/or moronic ideas into society and we'll never get anywhere. *cough cough* John Hubbard *cough cough*. Also, human life means next to nothing in the eyes of most people today. I was on a comment thread the other day discussing the issue of overpopulation and one idea was mass extermination of people. After get rid the the crimminals for everything from murder to vandilasim. They suggested we all take mandatory IQ tests and anyone below a certain grade should be killed.Their was actually positive feedback to this! I guess I better take a uzi to school tomorrow and kill all the kids in the special ed class, and then head to the vetrans retirement home downtown. After all, they can't work anymore and serve no purpose anymore, right? People are not a toy, life is precious, and the idea that killing millions, sorry, billions of people just because they have faults they have no control over is below contempt.Society has truely fallen is people are indifferent to this degree, and I don't know if their's any hope left at this point.
  • Mediocrity and ineptitude
  • The fact that being educated is looked on as a bad thing.
