the nurses who take care of babies in the Neonatal intensive care unit always seem to enjoy their profession when I ask them. I imagine helping newborn babies would be very enriching.

I think it would be a good idea to volunteer in several settings you are possibly interested in to see if they are what you expect. Labor/delivery would be working more with mothers than children, so pediatrics might be more in line. Other options are teaching, day care, pediatric dentistry, pediatric audiology, and others along that line.

I thought about becoming a preschool teacher. I would love to be part of helping form young minds into great people. Nursing would be great, but then you deal more with the adults than the children.

well depending, but i bet u did babysitting, so next into a career, try out a summer day camp for kids. See if u can get a part time job as a conserlor depending how old u r.

I think if you go into nursing, you don't just get to go into the neonatal unit. You have to work in a lot of different departments while you are in training and then you have to apply to get into the unit you want. If you are all for nursing in general, then it may be a good choice for you but, if you have any issues with people dying, vomit, blood.....you might want to reconsider. There are other options for working with children too such as daycare, social work, counselling, community centres, teaching.

well if you want to help children more than teach them...something like a social worker or a child psychologist. Its good work and its helping children in every walk of life...im studying to be a child psychologist and the things i get to do is amazing. somethings i have to hear some horrible things from kids about what has happened to them. but i will be able to stop it from ever happening again and that is where the joy comes out of the job...

First of all if you like to work with children, being a delivery nurse wouldn't really give you that exposure. Why don't you think about it this way.....What is it about working with chidren do you like? There may be careers out there that meet those standards that you may haven't thought about yet. Does that make sense?
