  • That really all does depend on the etymology. In the Bible, where "Lord" is used, it didn't necessarily mean "God" rather than a leader. Yet, where "LORD" is used, "YHWH" was used and that is the name of the divine.
  • A lord is a man. A god is a god. The sticker is saying that Jesus is both.
  • I'm guessing that the person with that bumper sticker thinks that Jesus is God. Which would be incorrect, he was the son of God. Jesus could be refered to as a god, only because of his power and stature. A capital 'G' and a lower case 'g' makes a lot of differance.
  • Well, of course, Jesus/Lord/God/Father/Holy Ghost are all essentially the SAME in Christian theology (or, at least, Catholic theology; I don't know much about how the different Protestant denominations divide up or add onto these beliefs) to the extent that (sorry, Op) Jesus IS God. His Son yes, but also a facet of the Same Person. It's one of those divine mysteries. As I've been told, human beings aren't even supposed to be capable of fathoming them, and I haven't even gone to seminary school, so I won't get into that. However, I think what the phrase "Lord and God" is supposed to signify is this: every religion that I, at least, know of perceives their god also as their creator. So, there's your God part. But the thing that was unique about Judaism was that it was the first (recorded) monotheistic religion that required its adherents to abide by a special MORAL code, rather than all these pantheistic traditions with flawed and capricious gods that only demanded superficial reverence in the form of temples and rituals and superficial sacrifice. So, that's where the concept of God as our Lord comes from: Someone that we must pay tribute to, not only through offerings, but Someone to whom and to whose laws we are subject, like your master is your "lord" or your king is your "lord." This all comes off as terribly long-winded, preachy, and restrictive, which is probably why I do not design bumper stickers.
  • Definitely a difference. A Lord is a person in charge of you, and has authority to order you around. A God is a creator, and a being of ultimate power.
