<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: MySpace Is a Website
In its most basic form, MySpace is simply a website that users can visit using their favorite web browser. Like many websites, MySpace exists on a web server and only serves formatted text, images and other human interface data to the user through the web browser. For this reason, MySpace should not slow down a computer, as it does not run as an application on the user's local machine.
On the Other: MySpace Works the Processor
Although MySpace resides on a web server, it still uses the user's local computer resources to display animations and play sounds. Some MySpace users load a considerable amount of flash animations and sound files on their MySpace pages, and each of these resources must employ the local computer's processor to play animation or sound.
Bottom Line
While MySpace may be little more than a website, the content on individual pages can cause a computer to slow down. MySpace pages with heavy reliance on animation and sound can place a heavy load on the computer's processor, slowing down the machine's overall operation.
