So if my boyfriend pawned something stolen and months later went back to pick it up, would they arrest him then? Or would they find him and arrest him before that if the item had been reported stolen?

Usually they come to arrest you when someone else tries to purchase the item. If it has been months, you should be free and clear. Plus if you are the one purchasing it back, you should be ok.
