Once.

once. I know a lot of people who took it twice.

twice, the inspector was a hard-ass... but you know what, since 1982, I have never been pulled over or received one moving violation

Just once. I had a lot of practice though. As soon as I could reach the pedals, my parents let me drive up and down the drive way. And when I got a little older we had friends and family that lived out in the country who had long driveways off of back roads that I could drive on and not worry about getting caught. I was pretty good at driving by the time I took my test. The only thing I didn't have experience in was other traffic. But that wasn't hard to manage.
