<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Nearly Silent
Ultrasonic humidifiers have several attractive features for consumers. They don't use a fan or boil water so they run in near silence. The lack of boiling water also means no burn risk. Most models produce both hot and cold humidity, based on the owner's choice.
On the Other: White Dust
Most models are more difficult to clean than traditional humidifiers. Unless the user puts distilled water into the machine, all ultrasonic humidifiers produce fine white dust. The amount of dust depends on what minerals are present in the water used and whether a demineralization cartridge is in place. Another drawback to ultrasonic humidifiers is that most are limited to small spaces.
Bottom Line
Ultrasonic humidifiers work, in that they produce humidity and operate with nearly no noise. If a consumer chooses to use one, they should consider purchasing demineralization cartridges and distilled water for the machines. This will ensure optimal operation.
