  • There are many holy Hindu scriptures, but i suppose the Bible's equivalent would be the Bhagavad-Gita. It takes place during the Mahabharata war and is written as a dialogue. It includes teachings on dharma, reincarntion, and the paths to salvation.
  • Although the Bhagavad-Gita is similar, I wouldn't call it equal to the Bible. It does however, give very accurate information about the religion for people wishing to convert to Hinduism. But for this religion, the best information is learned by attending poojas and talking to elders.
  • Bhagvad Gita... the core teaching of Hinduism... the doctrine put forward by Lord Krishna during the Battle of Mahabharata between the Pandavas and the Kauravas has no parallel in the total history of mankind. Bhagvad Gita contains in itself the complete Wisdom of the Cosmos. The knower of Bhagvad Gita becomes omniscient... there is nothing left for him to learn further. Life makes a complete circle for the knower of Bhagvad Gita... the journey of Life reaches its culmination point... the 8.4 Millionth manifestation. Beyond which there is nothing else but the stage of Salvation (moksha as we call it in Hinduism). More here- http://www.godrealized.com/bhagvad_gita.html

  • Another Holy book are the Vedas, like the Rig Veda is one of them.
  • The Vedas are the holy book in the hindu religion. There's four parts to them- samhita, brahmana, aranyaka & upanishat. And, the Bhagvad Gita is considered as a separate holy book because of its importance.
  • many books are available like Bhagvad Geeta,Ramayana, rigaveda, yajurveda, atharv veda, sam veda,etc..
  • The teachings of the Bible and the teachings of the Holy scriptures of the Hindu religion are poles apart. They are opposite to each other. The Bible talks about God reaching towards humanity. The concept of salvation in the Bible is that God reaches down to level of humanity to save them from eternal destruction. Whereas in the Hindu philosophy it is the opposite. Humanity has to reach out to the god and it is so impossible that one has to be reincarnated through several billion lifetimes until he/she attains 'moksha' or 'salvation'. Christian thought reinstates that there is only one life to live and that decides ones eternity. The opposite of that is taught is the Hindu scriptures. Christian basic concept is that of grace and redemption through grace. That is, God already died for the redemption of mankind. All that is required to be saved is faith. On the contrary, Hindu philosophy talks about 'dharma' or good works that will take one to heaven. Now think about this. If it was so simple to attain salvation or 'moksha' just by doing good deeds, how lame is that!!! IT IS IN THE FACT THAT SOMETHING SO UNATTAINABLE WAS MADE ACCESSIBLE THROUGH SIMPLE MEANS OF FAITH,that the Christian thought stands apart from all other philosophical streams of thought.
  • There are many texts in Hinduism, a few of them much older than the Bible. Look up the Vedas and works such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata.
  • Vedas, Upanishads, Itihasa Puranas are considered Holy Scriptures of Vedic Religion.
