MORMONS How is it possible that a pre-exilic Nephite on another continent could quote Malachi before the post-exilic prophet was even born?
THE PROBLEM:
The problem is that Lehi [Nephi's father] and his family supposedly left Jerusalem before the Babylonian conquest [around 600BC] - Malachi, however, was a post-exilic prophet [around 420BC]. So a prophet is being cited who appeared a continent away and long AFTER the events of the Book of Mormon.
THE BIBLE:
Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
THE BOOK OF MORMON:
I Nephi 22:15 For behold, saith the prophet, the time cometh speedily that Satan shall have no more power over the hearts of the children of men; for the day soon cometh that all the proud and they who do wickedly shall be as stubble; and the day cometh that they must be burned.
II Nephi 26:4 Wherefore, all those who are proud, and that do wickedly, the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of Hosts, for they shall be as stubble.
II Nephi 26:6 ...and they shall be as stubble, and the day that cometh shall consume them, saith the Lord of Hosts.
THE BIBLE:
Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
THE BOOK OF MORMON:
I Nephi 22:24 And the time cometh speedily that the righteous must be led up as calves of the stall...
