No, it's fine where it is. Kids these days can be complete idiots. I should know. The ones that are smart enough to know what they're doing will realize how important it is, and wait until they're of age.

no, I think 18 is an appropriate age because most people are mature enough to vote at that age. Also, young adults nowadays are more into watching the news and finding out about politics than they were before. People younger than 18 usually have not yet formed their own opinion about politics, but go just by what their parents say. At 18, you are an adult which makes you capable of voting.

Voting should be compulsory in the US. That way it can not be open so much to corruption. Also the candidates shouldn't be allowed to take huge somes of cash to fund their campaigns from multi corporates. It gives the impression they are willing to take bribes. As soon as kids have to start paying adult fare on public transport or paying taxes they should have the right to vote

No. This is one area where I will agree that the age should match that of the military minimum recruitment. If you are old enough to defend your country, you are surely old enough to help decide for whom is making the decisions on said defense options.

Good question! I've recently wondered about this. I haven't come to a conclusion, but I'm pondering the desirablity and effect of limiting both the voting age and military service to those over 25. Certainly, when I was 18, I believed I had the analytical skills and historical perspective to cast a knowledgable vote. I don't believe I necessarily had those skills at a younger age - not at 16 for sure.

I don't know what the average age of the US Answerbag contributors is, but if the quality of political thought that is expressed in questions about whether Obama is a Muslim or whether Palin is "hot" are typical I would suggest raising the voting age or requiring an IQ test.

i think you americans should get to do ALL the fun stuff at 18. my theory is...if youre old enough to die for your country and youre old enough to star in porn you should be old enough to vote and also to take a goddamn drink if you feel like it.
