Why do spelling and grammatical mistakes irk us so much? I just can't stand it, but I really don't understand why.

They show a lack of consideration. Such utterances basically say, "My time is SO much more important than yours. I can't be bothered to speak/write correctly or coherently or clearly, so I expect you to decipher what I am saying."
