Watch the linked video of the wife who inadvertently tried to hire a police undercover officer as a hit-man to kill here husband. Listen to her crocodile tears about the fate of her husband (who was actually unharmed) then her constant denials even when shown video of herself paying for the hit. It tells you a lot about the behavior of liars.

Guilty people can convince themselves of their innocence, of their inability to be caught, or can have feelings besides guilt, and can get caught up in those feelings and avoid their guilt. And completely innocent people can get caught up in being defensive, give up on trying to convince you of the truth, not because they have something to be defensive, but because something happened to them, or someone they loved and they are being accused and they're frustrated.
I would say both depending on the person involved.
It depends upon the person, but getting defensive and walking away is more likely. I think I would trust that person more than someone who tries to convince me that his lie is truth.
How easy is it for you to tell a lie, even a white lie(fib) scale of 1-10 ( 10 = very easy) ?be honest:-)

You're reading When a person feels guilty or knows he/she could be caught in a lie, will that person get defensive and walk away, or try to convince you that the lie is truth?

I do not understand how someone can cry and deny things when they have been caught, but I see it all the time. If you get caught in a lie, what is the point..your are Busted..just come clean and then be a better person from then on.

There is an old proverb/joke about a king visiting his kingdom's dungeon. Prisoner after prisoner came to the king's party and beseeched the monarch to release them, as they had been falsely accused and wrongly convicted. Finally he came to a cell where a man simply bowed to him. The king asked, "What were you convicted of doing?"
The prisoner answered, "Killing my neighbor in a fight."
The King responded, "And were you guilty/"
"Oh yes!" the man admitted. "And I'd do it again to any man who tried to attack my wife."
"Guard!" The King commanded, "Release this guilty man. I will not have him contaminating all these other innocents."

It wasn't that convincing, IMO. The proverb is great though.

When I watched her performance, I though of the Shakespearean line, "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."

Great proverb..It was obvious she was lying. Some people are much better at it, but what I often wonder is how people lie, especially once caught. The deed is done, it is now known, and yet they still look you in your eyes and lie.
I can ask my fiance something and he gets frustrated and walks away. I am not really sure if it is guilt and not wanting to face the truth, or if he is just sick of my pestering, although I have caught him in lies before, but he says he is done with the BS. They also say you can tell one is lying if they look to the left. I have also noticed that if someone stares you straight in your eyes as if looking through you, they are most likely lying.
