  • I don't see how any such insinuation was made in V. 39. Jesus said, "If ye were Abraham's children ye would do the works of Abraham." My understanding is that to "...do the works of Abraham." is to commit one's self through FAITH to GOD. The Jews, because of their leaders' fear of losing their authority and standing, chose not to believe and accept the Messiah Jesus Christ. As GOD provided a sacrifice in place of Abraham's son, He also provided a sacrifice - Jesus Christ - for all mankind. The Jewish heirarchy anticipated a messiah who would free them from their servitude to Rome.
